DEAR FAMILY, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, AND SUPPORTERS,
The start of this new year is coming with many changes. The biggest change is with the dissolution of Let’s Help Kids. If you are here with us reading this, you know how the story began. In 2009, my six-year-old daughter, Rachel was inspired by the story, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud. She and I embarked on a family journey to create Let’s Help Kids as a way to bring light, happiness, and love to children less fortunate than Rachel and the children in our lives.

Now, it’s time to tell you how the story ends.

The costume orders for the local shelters are coming in fast and furious... you may not think twice about a costume for this year... but the kids do!!

One local caseworker said: "Our thanks to you and Let’s Help Kids for providing costumes for the shelter’s children again this year. This means so much to our kids and their parents. Imagine how hard it is to be the only child in your class who doesn’t wear a costume for Halloween. Your gift means our children don’t have that worry, and won’t be singled out by their peers because they can’t afford a costume. What joy this brings to them and their parents!"

Want to help support this effort? Please donate today to help cover the costs for these costumes... they add up fast!!

Another lovely message we received yesterday:
"You make miracles. The hell these kids can go through is unbelievable. Just a few moments of a break from their reality each day can be the deciding factor for if they are going to make it or break it. It just takes some strong support in the whirlwind to help them through. So little, but for you, it wouldn’t get done. You are angels."

From a social worker today:
"We did an LHK referral today for the most amazing little girl who has been through so much and lives in such a chaotic family system through no fault of her own. It brought me to tears knowing she will be able to escape through art this summer with her new art supplies. LHK is such an amazing organization!!!"

We just love getting happy emails from school social workers after they deliver one of our gifts!! "The joy on his face was incredible!!! Thank you so much!"

03/20/2018

We had a bunch of pull-string gift bags left over from one of our events. Some local students approached us and asked fro them. They have taken them, filled them with goodies, and are delivering them to kids in the local hospitals. We love seeing kids be proactive and giving back to their communities! #KidsCanDoItToo #FillingBuckets

In starting a new year look at this quote from Carl Bard, "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending." It is never too late to start helping others.

Happiness is helping others

Happiness is achieved in many ways, but achieving happiness through helping others is a type of happiness that is simply remarkable. It is a happiness that can't be achieved any other way and it is a happiness that will bring you a lifetime of joy.

7 Reasons Why Helping Others Will Make You Live a Better Life

Do you ever find yourself wondering why you don't do more to help others or not wanting to go out of your way to help others? This article gives seven reasons as to why helping others is one of the best things you can do in your life not only for those you are helping, but for yourself.

Former president, Barack Obama said, “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”

Think about that for a minute. Simply helping others. even the smallest bit, can change the world. It can create hope, not just for you, but for everyone else around you.

Charles Dickens once said, “No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” This quote establishes that anyone and everyone can make a difference in this world simply by helping one another.

"For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness."

This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson simply shows how important it is to know what matters in life and that to not be happy is to lose.

School Buses are Rolling! – Let's Help Kids

Let’s Help Kids supports children living in economic distress by providing children with the extras in life beyond the essential needs of food, clothing, and shelter. Our gift program brings a sense of happiness and normalcy to kids who are starting or restarting the school year at a new school. We reach out and help and that support to children and their families lets them know that there is a community for them and they are valued. Make a donation to Let’s Help Kids today!

August 29, 2017 School Buses are Rolling! Jen The most outward sign that school is about to start, and in some communities already started, are school buses. Backpack laden students climb aboard fleets of yellow buses in their neighborhoods and arrived at school for days of learning, jostling social...

A Hollywood Escape – Let's Help Kids

Love the movies? All kids do!! Let’s Help Kids provides kids in financial stress with entertainment wishes to the movies, amusement parks, and sporting events and covers the extras like a pizza splurge or round of popcorn and drinks. We provide connection, context, and a Hollywood escape for kids and their families who need it most but can never hope to splurge.

August 17, 2017 A Hollywood Escape Jen Here’s an interesting number, the average American spent $2,842 on entertainment in 2015. That’s the most recent number available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Of course, that number varies depending on income, age, and geographic location. Entertainment...

13 kids books to spark conversations about empathy

"Lately, it seems like every other day, we turn on the news or open up our social media to find that another tragedy has occurred. Each time we’re faced with these events, we may be overcome with sadness, frustration, and hopelessness. But in these times, it’s important to have conversations with the children around us about inclusion and empathy.

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. It’s what helps us connect to other humans, and what makes us better humans. You may be surprised to learn that empathy isn’t an inborn trait, but rather one that must be learned – preferably during early childhood."

We pulled together a few excellent books for kids to spark conversations about inclusion and empathy.

76 fifth grade students from an Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Title I elementary school were treated to a day of STEM at the Baysox Game thanks to YOUR generosity. These students had lunch, saw a baseball game and had a lot of fun while learning lessons of history, math, geography, science, and language through the game of baseball!

We received this note from one of our supporters. This is WHY we do what we do... it reinforces the fact that a small bit of kindness can have a HUGE impact on kids:

"There are many organizations out there that do wonderful things for kids and their families. But I remember growing up in the coalfields of Appalachia, dirt poor. I don't mean the "we had love so I didn't know" kind of poor, I KNEW we were poor.

I spent the hours in line to get the cheese and other things handed out by the government, the church, whomever. The one thing they never gave out was JOY. If I received a birthday gift at all, it was usually something practical. Finding escape through music wasn't imaginable.

What I remember the most was someone providing a bunch of old football equipment and a local politician putting together a team of rag-tag boys from the hollow. A few of us were able to turn that old gear into scholarships through which we escaped our destiny in the mines. I've NEVER forgotten that generosity. After meeting you and hearing about the mission of Let's Help Kids, well, let's just say it's my honor to let folks know about you and the joy and hope for tomorrow that you provide to kids."
