Anne Arundel Community College

An excerpt from a message sent to the campus community earlier today from AACC President Dr. Dawn Lindsay-

Yesterday was such a heartbreaking day and hits home for all of us. For many, The Capital is the source for local news and information. More than that, the people we lost were colleagues, neighbors and friends who shared our stories, profiled our sports and performing arts and so much more. We have had and continue to have staff and faculty who have worked for The Capital. My thoughts are with the family, friends, and all who were impacted, including all of those who responded so quickly in this time of crisis. We grieve with all of them for this terrible tragedy and loss.

As you know, our college serves this community in so many ways, and will no doubt have students and colleagues affected. We have first responders on our campus and we train first responders for our community. Yesterday, we had EMT students on ride alongs, while other health sciences students were in lock down at the hospital. Some may have been in other clinical locations close to the scene. Many of us live nearby with daily commutes taking us down Bestgate Road or en route to routine shopping and other activities. Let us remember that our students and colleagues may have a variety of needs, and that the college has many services available to help them.

If students express any concerns, please know that we care deeply and that there are services available should they wish to speak to a counselor. Students can contact AACC’s counseling services by phone at 410-777-7111 or in person on the second floor of the Student Union Building (SUN 203).

Please know also that we remain committed to providing a safe and open campus. Let us continue to practice a philosophy of “see something, say something.”

As our community seeks to heal, let us continue to be compassionate and patient with our students and with one another.
