🚨 TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER | HIGHWAY 101 🚨

Aromas Tri-County Fire Protection District crews responded this evening to a high-speed traffic collision on northbound Highway 101 near Dunbarton Road.

With Car Week underway on the Monterey Peninsula, our area will experience a significant increase in traffic throughout the week, particularly along Highway 101 and other major routes leading to and from the Peninsula.

We ask everyone traveling through our community to slow down, stay alert, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination. Increased congestion, sudden stops, distracted drivers, and higher traffic volumes can quickly turn a routine drive into a serious incident.

Please remember:

* Slow down and maintain a safe following distance.
* Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
* Expect heavier-than-normal traffic and sudden congestion.
* Never drive impaired or overly fatigued.
* Move over and slow down when approaching emergency vehicles and personnel working along the roadway.
* Always wear your seat belt.

Our firefighters, law enforcement partners, tow operators, and other first responders will be working along our highways throughout the week. Help us keep you—and them—safe.

Enjoy Car Week, enjoy everything our region has to offer, and most importantly, make sure everyone gets home safely.

Tonight was a bittersweet evening for the Aromas Tri-County Fire Protection District.

After many years of dedicated service to our district, we had the privilege of celebrating Firefighter Aaron Peters as he begins the next chapter of his career with a well-earned promotion.

Aaron has been much more than a firefighter to this organization. He has been a mentor, a leader, a trusted teammate, and a steady presence for those who have had the honor of serving alongside him. His professionalism, humility, and commitment to the fire service have helped shape our department and the people within it.

While it’s never easy to say goodbye to one of our longest-standing members, there is no greater compliment than seeing one of our own advance because of hard work, dedication, and character. Although we will miss him around the station, we know he will continue making a positive impact wherever his career takes him.

Aaron, thank you for your years of unwavering service to the Aromas community and to this fire district. Congratulations on your promotion—we couldn’t be more proud of you. Once a member of the ATCFPD family, always a member of the ATCFPD family.

We wish you, your family, and your new Battalion nothing but continued success. Stay safe, stay humble, and never forget where your journey began.

đźš’ Mutual Aid in Action

CAL FIRE is currently assisting the City of Hollister Fire Department with a residential structure fire in the area of McCloskey Road and Fairview Road. At the same time, resources are providing station coverage in the City of San Juan Bautista to ensure emergency response capabilities remain available throughout the region.

This incident highlights the value of our mutual aid and automatic aid agreements. By working together across jurisdictions, fire agencies can quickly share resources, maintain service levels, and provide the highest level of protection to the communities we serve.

Partnerships like these help ensure that when help is needed, it’s there—regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

Sundays are for family—and in the fire service, that means both the ones at home and the ones on the line.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to bring those families together to celebrate Fire Captain Scott Balentine, our Aromas Tri-County Firefighter of the Year. Moments like these remind us that behind every call, every response, and every long shift, there’s a strong network of support that makes it all possible.

Traditions like this run deep—long before any of us started our careers—and we’re proud to carry them forward for the next generation.
