🚒 Mutual Aid in Action

CAL FIRE is currently assisting the City of Hollister Fire Department with a residential structure fire in the area of McCloskey Road and Fairview Road. At the same time, resources are providing station coverage in the City of San Juan Bautista to ensure emergency response capabilities remain available throughout the region.

This incident highlights the value of our mutual aid and automatic aid agreements. By working together across jurisdictions, fire agencies can quickly share resources, maintain service levels, and provide the highest level of protection to the communities we serve.

Partnerships like these help ensure that when help is needed, it’s there—regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

Sundays are for family—and in the fire service, that means both the ones at home and the ones on the line.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to bring those families together to celebrate Fire Captain Scott Balentine, our Aromas Tri-County Firefighter of the Year. Moments like these remind us that behind every call, every response, and every long shift, there’s a strong network of support that makes it all possible.

Traditions like this run deep—long before any of us started our careers—and we’re proud to carry them forward for the next generation.

🚒 Future Leaders Visit the Firehouse 🚒

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming a great group of local scouts to the station for a hands-on look at fire service operations. The scouts had the opportunity to learn about the tools and equipment firefighters use on a daily basis, explore our apparatus, and get an up-close look at some of the small tools that support emergency response.

One of the highlights of the visit was a hands-on training demonstration with fire extinguishers, where the scouts learned the basics of fire safety and how to properly operate an extinguisher using the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep).

We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community and help educate the next generation about fire safety and emergency response. Thank you to the scouts and leaders for visiting us — we hope to see some future firefighters in the group! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Training the next generation of firefighters doesn’t stop at the classroom door.

Today, cadets from the Monterey Peninsula College Fire Academy visited our Aromas Station to work on manipulative skills as they prepare for their upcoming midterm evaluations. Hands-on training like this helps build the confidence, teamwork, and muscle memory needed to perform on the fireground.

In 2025, CAL FIRE San Benito–Monterey Unit responded to more than 8,000 calls for service, answering the call for our communities day and night.

🚒 Incident Update – North Monterey County 🌧️💨

CAL FIRE crews remain on scene of a vegetation fire in North Monterey County near Hall Road. Despite significant rainfall in the area, strong winds contributed to fire spread, pushing the incident to approximately 2 acres.

This serves as an important reminder that even during wet weather, wind and receptive fuels can still lead to vegetation fires. Firefighters will continue to work toward full containment and patrol for any remaining hot spots.

Please continue to use caution and report any signs of smoke or fire.
