Yesterday we got to do something really special. We welcomed Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen and our friends and partners from the Cheyenne and Arapaho Native American tribes to conduct a ground blessing for what will become the new Gold Strike Park.

Gold Strike Park has a special significance in Colorado history. As the name suggests, is the recognized site of the original gold strike in Colorado — an event that would go on to transform our state’s history.

For several years, we have been working hard to reenvision what this site could be. We worked with our tribal partners to design a park that authentically honors the history of the land - both the strike and what came before it - that will also serve to bring modern users together as well. We have raised more than $8M in grants for this project, including winning the largest National Park Service award they give.

I’m really proud of our team, this work and what Gold Strike Park is going to become for Arvadans. The work will take an estimated two years to complete, and I look forward to being there to cut the ribbon with our tribal partners in (hopefully) 2028!

Today is “Hengstler Community Day” in Arvada, remembering an incredible community advocate and - for me - a dear friend. We miss you, Joe. Thanks for all that you did for Olde Town and Arvada.

We agree: Arvada may be 50% vowels, but it is 100% Awesome.

I am so extremely proud of the work of the City’s homelessness outreach team. 65 individuals stabilized and moved into permanent housing solutions this year — a new record. This work isn’t just the right thing to do, but the smart investment to make in the community we want to be.

Sixty-five people have gotten out of homelessness thanks to a coordinated effort between the Arvada city team and local nonprofits, a landmark achievement for the City of Arvada’s homelessness response
