We were proud to stand with our partners Arvada Police Department, Colorado yesterday during the Arvada Police Honor Garden Dedication and Annual Fallen Officer Ceremony. It was a very moving ceremony with a great turnout from the community.

The Honor Garden is a memorial located on the east side of Memorial Park behind City Hall, serving as a tribute to four police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty: Dillon Vakoff (2022), Gordon Beesley (2021), W. Michael Northey (1979), and Robert Beghtol (1961). This memorial is a space to not only remember their sacrifice, but to be inspired by the lives they lived and what they stood for.

An innovative internship program is helping give local students a path towards a career in emergency vehicle maintenance, while also keeping our fleet of more than 100 fire apparatus, ambulances, and utility vehicles running smoothly!

Arvada Fire partnered with Warren Tech this Spring to launch an internship program within our Fleet Division. Three students, all local to Arvada, began working in our maintenance shop, gaining mentorship and hands-on experience maintaining and repairing a variety of emergency vehicles.

Nationally, there is a shortage of mechanics working in the heavy-duty trucking industries. This shortage is even more pronounced in emergency services, where the path to becoming an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) requires countless advanced certifications and specialized knowledge to work on complicated equipment like fire trucks. We hope this internship program will help develop a pipeline for future hires at Arvada Fire. Without working apparatus and those that can repair them, we can't complete our mission of saving lives.

Our first class has nearly completed their internship before heading off to college. We'll host this program again in 2027! We're proud to mentor and invest in the next generation.

šŸŽ„ The 9NEWS (KUSA) Morning Show came out to our maintenance shop this week to cover this story! Link in comments.

Early this morning, Arvada Fire provided mutual aid for a fuel tanker rollover accident on I-70 westbound near mile marker 258 just west of Golden. Truck 54 with Hazmat 54 and Truck 60 with Hazmat 60 responded to the scene for Arvada Fire after the tanker rolled over around 2:00 AM.

With thousands of gallons of fuel involved, a hazardous materials response was initiated involving several emergency agencies with Foothills Fire & Rescue. Firefighters contained fuel spilling on the ground and across the interstate, helping prevent runoff entering storm drains and causing contamination. Before the tanker could be placed upright and towed, firefighters also needed to drill a hole into the tanker to offload the remaining fuel from its compartments.

Crews used a hose to transfer the fuel from the crashed tanker into another tanker nearby. While doing this, grounding and bonding is a critical safety measure to prevent static electricity ignition of flammable liquids and vapors. No injuries occurred in the crash. I-70 WB was shut down in the area, but all lanes of the interstate re-opened later in the morning.

Incidents with hazardous materials involve dangers to the environment, public and first responders, which is why a larger response from multiple agencies and mutual aid may be needed. When called upon, we’re prepared and ready to respond to the scene to mitigate the incident and help protect lives.

Everyone here at Arvada Fire would like to wish you a safe holiday weekend! Our administrative Headquarters and Dave's Locker will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of the holiday. Our emergency services are available 24/7.

🌭 Never leave a grill unattended. Place the grill well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
šŸš— Our roadways will be busy this weekend here in Colorado. Stay safe, be patient. Always plan for a sober driver.
šŸŠWatch children closely around water. Have the appropriate safety equipment, like a Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (life-jacket), for your activities. Always respect the water!

Most importantly, this Monday, we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country. Their never forgotten, and we're forever thankful for their service.

National EMS Week means we take a moment to acknowledge the life-saving skill, compassion, and dedication EMS practitioners bring to every incident. To those in our agency and throughout the country, we salute you!

Here in Arvada, also means barbeque. It's a long-standing tradition that we celebrate by hosting a lunch BBQ across all three shifts at Station 56. Pictured here is EMS Capt. Putfark and Grillmaster Graham making sure everyone gets fed.

In case you didn't know, about 75% of our call volume is medical in nature. All of our firefighters hold either EMT or Paramedic certification, and we carry Advanced Life Support (ALS) capabilities on every apparatus and to every call. This year, we've remained on the cutting edge of pre-hospital emergency medical care.

We acquired and deployed portable prehospital ventilators this Spring, which can treat patients in respiratory distress who aren't breathing on their own. Our new pre-hospital whole blood program has also saved nearly a dozen lives since its launch, ensuring patients with severe bleeding get the blood they need right away.

We have a progressive, high standard of EMS here at Arvada Fire, and we're proud to provide our community with the highest level of emergency medical care every time someone calls 911.

Crews from Brush Engine 59 and Brush 58 have safely returned home to Arvada after battling wildfires in Kansas. A series of lightning-started fires grew rapidly in dry fuels last week, burning more than 90,000 acres in southern Kansas near the town of Meade.

Our two crews deployed on Saturday and quickly got to work on the Meade Lake Complex fire. For several days, temperatures were near triple digits with low humidity and strong winds, creating challenging fire conditions. Our crews focused on containment efforts, holding established fire lines and ensuring fire does not escape the perimeter or threaten structures.

Due to the great work of over 200 firefighters and more favorable weather conditions, containment quickly grew to 95% on the Meade Lake Complex fire. With the fire in mop-up stages, our crews were able to demobilize and return home. Well done!
