Today, we remember the Charleston 9. On June 18, 2007, nine Charleston firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the Sofa Super Store fire.

We honor their courage, dedication, and selfless service. Their legacy lives on through the firefighters who serve our communities each day and through all those who answer the call to help others.

The FDNY “Father’s Day Fire” was a tragic, five-alarm blaze on June 17, 2001, at a hardware store in the Astoria section of Queens, NY. An explosion of illegally stored propane and chemicals caused a catastrophic building collapse, resulting in the line-of-duty deaths of three FDNY firefighters and injuring dozens.

It is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Firefighter Frank J. Condello Jr. (Retired).

Firefighter Condello proudly served the City of Asbury Park Fire Department from 1969 to 1996. Prior to his service in Asbury Park, he served honorably in the United States Navy and with the Hoboken Fire Department.

Visitation services are scheduled for this coming Thursday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township, NJ.
