Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sherrill Fire Dept and the Lahey Family as they navigate this very difficult time and tremendous loss!

It is with extremely heavy hearts we announce the passing of one our brothers, Captain Frank Lahey after a courageous battle with cancer. Frank was our training officer, and served 23 years on the dept. Our hearts hurt, and Frank will be missed forever. Until we meet again Frank. Rest in Peace 1325, we will take it from here.🚒💜🖤

A good reminder for the coming days! Please consider the outside conditions when burning!

Near record high temperatures, dry conditions, and southwest winds with gusts up to 30 MPH today is resulting in elevated fire danger across the area. Avoid burning today!

Please do not do any burning today due to elevated fire danger!

Critical fire weather today could lead to fires exhibiting extreme fire behavior. If you are considering burning, plan to do so on a later date, as conditions are ripe for fires to quickly become uncontrollable.

Incident Type: Structure Fire
Address: 6526 Asbury Rd

The Asbury Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6526 Asbury Rd Monday morning. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the garage was fully involved with visible fire and smoke. All occupants and a dog were evacuated upon initial arrival and were safe, and no civilian injuries were reported.

An initial attack was attempted to try and stop the spread of the fire but was unsuccessful. The fire then became a defensive operation and was eventually controlled at approximately 1:30pm. Due to the extensive damage to the residence, the structure is deemed a complete loss. The Red Cross has been contacted and is assisting the family members displaced by the fire.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing with the Iowa State Fire Marshal but does not appear suspicious at this time.

Assisting the Asbury Fire Department at the scene were fire departments from Sherrill, Centralia-Peosta and Dubuque, the Asbury Police Department, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office.
