OUT WITH THE OLD(ISH) AND IN WITH THE NEW!

We're talking about the year and we're talking about a changing of the guard at GUV. As of January 1, 2025, Andy Scherer will be the new voice on the phone, listserv poster, email responder, face at events, and the list goes on.

I am retiring from my position, but not from my passion for all things recyclable and compostable. For the past ten years, I've taken great pleasure and pride in sharing Vermont's forward-thinking laws with you; diverting countless tons of material from the landfill. It can be frustrating and confusing and even inconvenient, but I thank each and every one of you for making an effort to live sustainably. Our children and their children will thank us for leaving less of a mess.

Please join us in welcoming Andy, and be patient and kind as he settles in and "learns the ropes."

I wish you all the best for a peaceful, bounteous, and productive 2025.

Ham Gillett

PAINT IS NOT HAZARDOUS WASTE.....unless the can has no label or it's rusted or leaking. If this describes any of your paint cans, they have to go to a hazardous waste collection.
If your cans have a label and are not rusted or leaking, please consider taking them to a local year-round drop-off location instead of bringing them to a hazardous waste collection event. Here's a list of drop-off locations with instructions about what is acceptable:
https://www.paintcare.org/drop-off-sites/
If you missed our collection event on July 27, you may take your material to the Springfield haz waste depot, open by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays through September. Here's the info:
https://www.vtsolidwastedistrict.org/
If you live in a GUVSWMD town, you may use this facility even though your town is not listed on the above website.
