Ash Fork Fire is aware of the smoke plumes to the East of AZ89 and to the South of the I-40. These are USFS prescribed burns South of the I-40 between mileposts 150-153. The smoke and flames can be seen for miles.
USFS expects the smoke may be visible for the next two days.

Following significant monsoon moisture and a reduced risk of wildfire, Yavapai County will lift its county-wide fire ban effective Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. The ban is being lifted for all Yavapai County's fire zones (1-5), which include the following cities and towns: Ash Fork, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Mayer, Cordes Junction, Black Canyon City, Congress, North Wickenburg, Peeples Valley, Yarnell, Wilhoit, Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde, and all unincorporated areas.

This decision was made in coordination with our regional partners, including the Prescott National Forest, Coconino National Forest, Tonto National Forest, and the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM), who have also lifted fire restrictions. Recent rainfall throughout the county has increased humidity and moisture content in vegetation, leading fire officials to agree that conditions are appropriate to lift the current restrictions.

“This decision reflects the impact of recent weather patterns and the ongoing assessment of fire restrictions across Yavapai County. The lifting of fire restrictions is welcome news for our communities, but it does not signal the end of wildfire season. We encourage everyone to continue practicing fire safety, stay aware of current conditions, and do their part to help prevent human-caused wildfires,” said Ashley Ahlquist, Yavapai County Emergency Manager. “Wildfire remains a year-round concern in Arizona, and we encourage everyone to continue making fire safety a part of every outdoor activity.”

Residents are advised to check with their local fire district for any specific regulations that may still apply in their area.

🚨 INCIDENT UPDATE & THANK YOU 🚨

If you passed by the station today, you might have noticed some boarded windows and clean-up crews.
Last night, our AFFD station sustained severe criminal damage, leaving our quarters looking like a chaotic crime scene. We want to clear up any rumors and share exactly what happened.

What Happened:
Just prior to our emergency call last night, YCSO received two urgent 911 calls. One reported a disturbance with a male breaking windows (mistakenly believed to be at the YCSO substation). The second was a call from a frantic mother whose young children were allegedly approached at the playground, then followed by a shouting, bleeding man, terrifying them!
Immediately after those reports, AFFD was dispatched to the post office area to treat a male with severe, bleeding from cuts to his arms, wrists and hands.
AFFD personnel arrived on scene, stabilized the male’s heavy bleeding, and wrapped his injuries. The man claimed he was cut jumping a barbed wire fence and refused hospital transport.
Meanwhile, a second deputy investigated the playground report. The male was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies transported him to the hospital for medical clearance, and then to jail for disorderly conduct.(more charges to follow)
In the meantime AFFD members returned to station to find a terrifying sight! The pieces quickly clicked together: the suspect had actually targeted our fire station first, shattering our windows and severely cutting himself in the process, even trying to enter a vehicle at some point. He then fled on foot, terrorized the children, and headed south before stumbling into a deputy. Nothing was missing or stolen from the station.
The Chief was notified that the suspect was released this afternoon, no contact with AFFD station or personnel was a release condition.
AFFD is still completely uncertain why our station was targeted.

Operations & Cleanup:
Please rest assured that AFFD operations are running as usual! Emergency services are fully functional and unaffected.
Our dedicated members worked late into the night to secure the building and clean up glass and sanitize entrances.
Interim Chief Fenner, along with several helping hands, returned this morning to board up the broken windows and clean up the extensive blood trail left behind.

Our Gratitude:
We want to extend a massive thank you to the alert community members who called 911 last night—your quick actions kept a bad situation from getting worse as the suspect was quickly apprehended and we are hopeful he will be held accountable.
We also want to give immense credit to our AFFD crew and the YCSO deputies who responded swiftly, handled the medical emergency, protected our local kids, and safely apprehended the suspect.
We are incredibly grateful that our members and the children are safe. Thank you for always having our backs, just as we have yours! 🚒 🚓
