Here is an update from the US National Weather Service Springfield Missouri of weather we may receive later tonight. As always, have a plan, have access to receive watches and warnings should they be issued.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms moves through the area overnight tonight into Tuesday morning. Primary hazard is damaging wind gusts. Additional hazards may include quarter sized hail and localized heavy rainfall. Uncertainty on the how quickly the front clears the area will determine if we see redevelopment Tuesday afternoon/evening.

Even though we are in category 1 still doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be aware and watchful.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone that attended the Storm Spotters Training last night. Close to 40 people attended the training put on by Shelby Melto from the US National Weather Service in Springfield. As someone who has attended this training too many times to count throughout my career, I can say this was the best yet!

I also would like to thank Ronnie Bell and her CERT Team from the Springfield-Greene County OEM for attending and letting the public know the training they offer as well as what they offer for those who wish to help our community by being part of their team. They provide countless hours of service in many capacities for all of Greene County.

We had police officers and firefighters in attendance along with some of their family members, I thank each of you for taking the time to come and brush up on your skills that are used in protecting our communities.

This was done in conjunction not only with the National Weather Service, but Mike Irwin of the Dade County OEM. We rely on our neighbors such as Dade County to give us information and data during storms so that we are better prepared to protect our citizens.

Last but certainly not least, thank you to the multiple citizens that came out to learn how to properly and accurately report storms to the National Weather Service. As I said to the audience last night, we as first responders rely on the public greatly for information from our community so that we may do a better job for each of you. Thank you all for making this training event a success!
