🚒🔥 Friday Night Training at Ash Grove Fire 🔥🚒

Friday, August 7, members of Ash Grove Fire spent the evening doing what we do regularly—training so we’re ready when our community needs us.

This week’s training focused on following a hose line in zero visibility. Our firefighters were blacked out so they couldn’t see and had to rely completely on their hands and training to find their way.

They had to stay in contact with the hose while crawling through and around different obstacles, just like they may have to do inside a smoke-filled structure. When you can’t see what’s in front of you, knowing where you are and which direction you’re going can make all the difference.

One of the skills we worked on was feeling the hose couplings. Fire hose sections are connected together with male and female couplings. By feeling the coupling, a firefighter can determine which direction they need to go. The male coupling leads back toward the truck and water supply, while the female coupling leads toward the nozzle and the fire.

The firefighters had to find the couplings by touch, identify them, and determine which way would take them back toward the truck and which way would take them toward the nozzle—all without being able to see.

This was a basic training exercise, but we’ll continue building on it. Each time we do it, we’ll add more obstacles and make things a little more challenging.

We hope we never have to use these skills, but when the call comes, we want them to be second nature.

We train so that we will be ready when needed.

🌊 With all the flooding we’ve been seeing lately, we figured now was the perfect time to share an important life-saving skill… 🦈😂

In all seriousness, floodwaters are dangerous. Never drive through flooded roadways, avoid walking through moving water, and remember:

Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Stay safe, have a laugh, and know that your friends at Ash Grove Fire Rescue are always here to help—whether it’s a flooded roadway… or a shark with a sudden cardiac emergency. 🚒❤️

🚒 A Big Thank You to Chase Young! 🚜

The Ash Grove Fire Department would like to give a huge shout-out to Chase Young, who brush hogged around our fire station where our mowers couldn’t.

He had to move countless large rocks just to get the job done, and we truly appreciate the time, effort, and hard work he put in.

🚒 You may have noticed we’ve been a little quieter on social media lately—but rest assured, we’ve been anything but quiet behind the scenes and in our day-to-day operations.

While our firefighters continue responding to emergencies, training, and serving our community, our administrative team has also been hard at work pursuing funding opportunities that help reduce the financial burden on our taxpayers.

We are excited to announce that Brookline Fire Protection District has recently submitted grant applications totaling $3,031,836.33 to support critical projects that will strengthen emergency services throughout our district and region.

These projects include:
✅ Funding for additional career staffing to improve response capabilities and service delivery.

✅ Funding to enhance and sustain our volunteer firefighter program, ensuring we can continue recruiting, training, and retaining dedicated volunteers.

✅ A regional grant to replace aging radios that are becoming increasingly unreliable and are failing at an alarming rate, helping ensure first responders can communicate safely and effectively when seconds matter most. This regional grant includes the partnership of 4 local partners - Ash Grove Fire Protection District, Battlefield Fire Protection District, Bois D'Arc Missouri Fire Protection District, and Willard Fire Protection District.

Securing grant funding allows us to pursue these important improvements while minimizing costs to our local taxpayers.

We remain committed to being good stewards of public funds and continuously seeking opportunities to improve service without placing unnecessary financial strain on our community.

A special shout-out to the students from Bois D’Arc, Brookline, and Ash Grove who participated in and successfully completed the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course.

Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to learning lifesaving skills have led to this incredible accomplishment. Passing your EMR certification is no small feat, and you should be proud of the knowledge and confidence you’ve gained to help others in times of need.

🚒☀️ COMMUNITY, KIDS, AND A WHOLE LOT OF FUN! ☀️🚒

What an incredible couple of days for Ash Grove’s summer school kids!

Last Wednesday and again today, members of Ash Grove Fire and Ash Grove Police Department teamed up to visit the pool and hand out popsicles and stickers to the kids. Seeing all those smiles made the day even sweeter! 🍧🚔🚒

Today was extra special as we brought out both our brand-new fire engine and our old engine to give the kids a chance to cool off and have some fun in the water! 💦🔥 The laughter, excitement, and joy on their faces made it a day to remember.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Serving our community isn’t just about responding to emergencies—it’s about building relationships, creating memories, and being a positive part of our kids’ lives.

These are the days that our volunteers and paid staff enjoy the most. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make these visits possible, and to the kids for making it so much fun!
