In 2002 Lee Boyde Malvo (17 yrs old) and John Allen Muhammad (41 yrs old), dubbed “the DC Snipers” went on a killing spree that had much of the DC, Virginia and Maryland Metro area on edge. In all, it is believed they were responsible for the death of 17 people. Muhammad was convicted and sentenced to death. He was executed in the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia in 2009 . Lee Boyde Malvo was convicted and sentenced to six consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.

Last week the US Supreme Court agreed to review Malvo’s life sentence.

A few days before Christmas of last year, I was asked to sketch the first day of a civil case in DC Federal court.

"Cynthia Warmbier
v.
The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea".

It was an extremely emotional hearing and I struggled to maintain my composure as Otto Warmbier's parents both testified about their love for their son Otto, his arrest, the horrible treatment by his captors, and his ultimate death at the hands of the North Koreans.

So this happened the other day--.
Even though much of the government is furloughed, work at the federal courthouse goes on. Iranian journalist Hashemi was arrested in St Louis Missouri and flown to DC to testify before a DC federal grand jury. Her two son's we're also in the courthouse. One of them stop to pray in the cafeteria as the "Right to Life" march gathered outside, and then headed towards the capitol building to here VP Mike Pence speak.

Sentencing of the Ford brothers: Malique, Elijia and Michael (the gunman) in PG Co. Maryland yesterday. Michael Ford shot numerous rounds into a PG Co. Police station. In the mayhem, an undercover PG policeman was mistaken for the gunman and was shot by a fellow officer.

When I heard that this property across from us had been sold to developers, I really wanted to paint the two barns before they are torn down; ideally in the snow. Yesterday I got my chance (probably the last), but it was a small window, sun was going down and the snow was coming down pretty hard. (check out the amount of snow on my palette!)
