Special guest presentations by the Center for Social Housing, the Peoplesโ Justice Institute, and the Green New Deal Coalition DC: Whether you're new to the concept of social housing or already organizing around housing justiceโyou're invited to learn, ask questions, and help shape the conversation.
Over the past decade, Washington, DC has lost more than 60,000 Black residents, and recent reports indicate that three in five Black residents can no longer afford to live in the city.
As โArea Median Incomeโ continues to rise while wages lag behind, so-called "affordable housing" has become increasingly out of reach for many working-class Washingtonians.
With new political leaders in the city, DC has a unique opportunity to finally implement a more equitable use of public land to truly serve the people over private profit.
Action / Solutions Now:
Find out more about the DC Housing Crisis and the solution of Social Housing โ by watching this YouTube playlist here: Solving the DC Housing Crisis and visiting, www.SaveDCPublicLand.org for more info.
If you agree that public land in D.C. should remain under municipal (city) control for the public good, please sign onto the Call for a Moratorium on Public Land Giveaways here by Saturday August 29th.
Then, join a conversation with housing activists for a discussion on what decommodified social housing is and how it can help address displacement, expand permanently affordable housing, and ensure that public land remains a permanent public resource for truly inclusive communities.
Be there!
