Since 1944, the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (AVFRD) has been answering your calls. We are a part of the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue system, responding from Station 6 (Ashburn) and Station 22 (Landsdowne). Our community is growing and so is the need for volunteers to become trained firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). We also need administrative volunteers to a

From Ashburn to Washington – AVFRD brought seatbelt safety awareness to the national stage this week.

Invited by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to participate in the Department of Transportation’s Motor Carrier Safety Day, AVFRD arrived with our seatbelt convincer, a unique simulator that gives people a firsthand experience of what a 5-10 mph crash actually feels like.

EMS Chief Mike Walsh and Captain Glenn Kaupin represented AVFRD at the event, joining Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Administrator Derek Barrs, pictured in the first photo.

If it ain’t raining, we ain’t training! 🌧️

Our Wednesday night fire crew didn’t let the spring showers stop them from strengthening their skill set during weekly training.

Last week, they focused on vehicle extrication, a skill used when patients are trapped in a vehicle after a crash and firefighters need specialized tools to remove them safely.
