A warm front lifting through our region brings a period of humid and unsettled weather today. Expecting two rounds of rainfall, the first, a round of showers in the morning followed by a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The strength and coverage of severe weather depends on the amount of clearing this afternoon.

Many fire departments observe Firefighters Memorial Sunday in June, and Massachusetts law recognizes it on the second Sunday. Thank you to Governor Maura Healey for proclaiming today Firefighters Memorial Sunday 2026, honoring Boston Fire Department Firefighter Robert "BK" Kilduff, Jr, and all departed firefighters: "Their contributions to our collective safety and well-being should never be forgotten."

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are possible this afternoon and evening, mainly for western MA and CT. Elsewhere, there is a risk for non-severe thunderstorms with hazards limited to lightning and heavy downpours. Thunderstorm formation would be most likely after 3PM.

Heads up for Sat evening: Isolated to scattered strong to severe storms are possible across the region, primarily between 6 PM and 10 PM. A Level 2 "Slight Risk" is in place for portions of interior southern New England, while a Level 1 "Marginal Risk" covers the coast. The main threats are damaging winds and frequent lightning. Stay weather-aware and keep an eye on the radar if you have outdoor plans!

The Normandy American Cemetery sits on a bluff above Omaha Beach. It is the final resting place of 9,388 Americans who gave the last full measure of devotion to their country and the cause of freedom around the world on , 82 years ago today. Upon the memorial is an inscription:

"This embattled shore, portal of freedom, is forever hallowed by the ideals, the valor and the sacrifices of our fellow countrymen."
