No Veteran should be homeless in the country they swore an oath to defend.

If you are a Veteran who is homeless or at risk of homelessness, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 877-424-3838 for assistance.
The call is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Or call (708) 202-4961. Hines VA Hospital has a program to support homeless Veterans, and they will send a social worker to assist the Veteran in need within 24 hours. The social worker will work to secure housing on the same day.

If your call goes unanswered, please leave a message. A representative from Hines VA will contact you within one business day to provide further assistance, and a dedicated social worker will be dispatched to help the Veteran in need.

​Badge-Access Building: For building security, the main entrance requires employee badge access. When you arrive at the door, please your VSO a call and a member of our team will come right out to greet you and let you in!

​Document Drop-Off: If you only need to drop off paperwork or medical evidence, a secure, locked drop box will be soon available at our regular office.

​We remain 100% open, fully operational, and ready to serve our veteran community.

Agent Orange Awareness Day: Honoring Our Veterans & Raising Awareness

​Today, August 10th, marks Agent Orange Awareness Day—commemorating the anniversary of the first recorded deployment of tactical herbicides in Vietnam in 1961.

​Decades after the Vietnam Era, millions of Veterans and their families continue to live with the serious health impacts of toxic exposure. Thanks to the PACT Act, presumptive locations and qualifying health conditions have expanded significantly, making it vital that every Veteran knows their rights and eligibility.

​📍 Recognized Locations & Service Dates
​If you served in any of the following locations during these specific timeframes, the VA presumes exposure to Agent Orange or other tactical herbicides:

​Republic of Vietnam (including territorial waters / Blue Water Navy): Jan 9, 1962 – May 7, 1975

​Thailand (any U.S. or Royal Thai base): Jan 9, 1962 – June 30, 1976

​Laos: Dec 1, 1965 – Sept 30, 1969

​Cambodia (Mimot / Krek, Kampong Cham): April 16, 1969 – April 30, 1969

​Guam, American Samoa, or territorial waters: Jan 9, 1962 – July 30, 1980

​Johnston Atoll (or ships calling at Johnston Atoll): Jan 1, 1972 – Sept 30, 1977

​Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): Sept 1, 1967 – Aug 31, 1971

​C-123 Aircraft: Active duty or reserve personnel who maintained or flew C-123s used in Operation Ranch Hand (1969–1986).

​Stateside Test & Storage Sites: Specific U.S. military bases (e.g., Eglin AFB, Fort Chaffee, Dugway Proving Ground).

​🩺 Recognized Presumptive Conditions
​A presumptive condition means you do not need to prove that your service caused your illness—only that you served in an eligible location and have a medical diagnosis.

​Cardiovascular & Endocrine: High Blood Pressure (Hypertension), Ischemic Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypothyroidism.

​Cancers: Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Respiratory Cancers (lung, bronchus, larynx, trachea), Chronic B-cell Leukemias, Multiple Myeloma, Hodgkin’s Disease, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Soft Tissue Sarcomas.

​Neurological & Blood Disorders: Parkinson’s Disease, Parkinsonism / Parkinson’s-like symptoms, Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS), AL Amyloidosis, Peripheral Neuropathy.

​Skin Conditions: Chloracne, Porphyria Cutanea Tarda.

​📢 How You Can Help Spread Awareness
​Share This Post: Reach Veterans or family members who may not realize their health condition qualifies for VA service connection.

​Connect with an Accredited VSO: Advise Veterans to speak with a County Veterans Service Officer (VSO) or accredited representative to file a claim or an "Intent to File."

​Schedule an Agent Orange Registry Exam: Any eligible Veteran can request a free, specialized health exam through their local VA Medical Center.

​Wear Orange in Solidarity: Post a photo in orange today using and to keep the conversation active.

​Never assume it's "too late" to file a claim. Help ensure those who served receive the care and recognition they earned.

​We were gifted an Invacare TDX SP2 power wheelchair, and we would love to get it into the hands of a local veteran who needs it!

​Please Note: The chair is currently not holding a charge. It will likely need a new charger, new batteries, or a quick technical checkup to get fully up and running.

​If you are a veteran—or know a local veteran—who could benefit from this mobility chair and is willing to look into getting the battery/charger sorted, please reach out to our office!

No Coalition Meeting Today! ☀️🇺🇸

​Just a friendly reminder for our Randolph County Veteran Coalition members that we will not be holding our regular meeting today.

​With the recent 4th of July holiday and so many of our partners taking well-deserved summer vacations, we want to make sure everyone has a chance to relax and enjoy the season with their families.

​We look forward to reconnecting, sharing fresh updates, and getting back to work for our local veterans at our next scheduled meeting in August!

"More than 90,000 veterans and surviving family members are now covered by a proposed class action settlement in Freund v. Collins, a lawsuit forcing the Department of Veterans Affairs to go back through decades of disability appeals, its own tracking system shut down in error, often without the veteran ever knowing.

A federal court will decide whether to make the deal final at a fairness hearing on Aug. 13. If approved, appeals that vanished as far back as 1990 will be reactivated, and claims that win could pay compensation all the way back to the original filing date."

A settlement could force the VA to reopen more than 90,000 wrongly closed disability appeals, with back pay reaching back to 1990.

​Did you know that our local veteran community brings an incredible financial and economic footprint right here to Randolph County?

According to the newly released NC Veterans Economic Impact Dashboard, federal investments into our local heroes are making a profound difference:

​🔹 $121.2 Million in total annual VA investment into Randolph County.
🔹 $58.1 Million directly in Compensation & Pension benefits to local veterans.
🔹 $54.9 Million dedicated to Medical Care for our county's heroes.
🔹 7,327 officially registered veterans residing in our county boundaries.

​While these numbers are monumental, they only tell part of the story.

​What the state-level tracking doesn't show is the full scope of what our County Veteran Services team manages every single day. The 7,327 population count only includes officially tracked veterans. It doesn't account for the countless veterans who haven’t yet identified or registered, nor does it include the hundreds of surviving spouses, children, and dependent family members that our office actively assists with specialized claims, healthcare access, and survivor benefits.

​Our mission is to advocate for every piece of that puzzle, ensuring that every dollar or benefit earned through military service finds its way back to support a family in our county.
