Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen of Asheboro

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen of Asheboro Our Daily Bread is a community collaborative in the East Side community of Asheboro North Carolina fo Since its inception, Our Daily Bread s Soup Kitchen, Inc.

Our Daily Bread operates Monday through Friday and opens its doors promptly at 11:30 am. Residents are served hot meals and dessert in a large bright dinning room. Much to the relief and delight of those served, Our Daily Bread now serves a full holiday meal Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. In recent years, various youth groups have volunteered to host a community day on the 4th of July. The festi

vities include hot dogs and burgers on the grill, snow cones, games for the kids and good conversation. Our Daily Bread opened its’ doors more than thirty one years ago as a vision of local retired minister, Dora Atlas. Atlas initially planned to finance her mission
with her social security income and personal savings but an overwhelming community response soon saw the launching of a ministry that has remained a vital part of the Asheboro community. has provided a daily meal to meet the nutritional needs of those less fortunate or who have fallen on hard times. Due to the rise in unemployment and the overall economic climate, the numbers of those being served has taken a sharp increase. In 2010, the number of residents fed daily took on a fifty percent increase. In recent years, the numbers peaked to more than 10,000 meals served annually. While nationwide, America has seen not only a rise in homelessness and unemployment but an increase of those who are hungry also. Our Daily Bread has aimed its task at providing at least one nutrition filled meal filled meal a day. In 2009, Pastor Michael Trogdon, stepped into the leadership role after Atlas retired. "A community is only as strong as its’ people and Asheboro ‘s residents have proven each year by the increase of volunteers whether they be young or old, professional, blue collar or retired that giving of ones time and energy is a small seed that continues to grow and enrich the lives of others.”
—Michael Trogdon, Former Director
In 2019, the torch was passed to Community Leader, Gene Woodle. Woodle has seen an increase in numbers on individuals being fed and an increase in volunteers. He said the number of meals served in 2019 was around 22,000. The pandemic came and hit hard by mid March and the numbers grew to serving on 40,000 individuals in 2020.
“It’s truly a blessing to know that anytime we’re in need of food and supply items, I can ask the community and they’ll respond quickly in getting us those items.” Gene Woodle -Director

What a blessing it was to have the opportunity to share with the Central Church family about two organizations that are very close to my heart, Our Daily Bread Kitchen and VOB Mentoring Organization.

I want to sincerely thank Pastor Joseph, Randy Lee, and the entire Central Church family for opening your doors and allowing me to share the vision, the mission, and the work God has called us to do in our community.

Your love, prayers, generosity, and support of both organizations over the years have truly made a difference. Sometimes we don’t realize how far a simple act of kindness, a financial gift, a prayer, or a word of encouragement can go. But when we come together, God can take what we have and use it to impact countless lives.

I believe we are all called to serve in some capacity. We may not all have the same gifts, but we all have something we can give. My prayer is that we continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus — feeding those who are hungry, encouraging those who are struggling, mentoring our young people, and reminding others that their circumstances do not determine their future.

And I can’t end without giving a special shoutout to my beautiful wife and beautiful daughter for being there to support me. ❤️ Having my family beside me makes these moments even more meaningful.

I’m humbled, grateful, and honored that God continues to allow me to serve. This isn’t about me, it’s about the people we have the opportunity to touch, the lives we can change, and the legacy we leave behind.

To God be the glory! 🙏🏾❤️
Let’s continue to serve, love, encourage, and make a difference one life at a time.

We're also thankful for the donations we received today, including 55 flats of eggs, which we gave most of them to lots of individuals needing eggs and some to another food pantry, to share on the other side of town.
We also gave away lots of clothing items.

It was great being able to share some information about Our Daily Bread Kitchen yesterday at the Community Resource Fair at Randolph Community College.

I was a little under the weather and wasn’t able to stay as long as I would have liked, but I’m thankful for my Facility Manager, Jesse, who did a great job stepping in and stepping up! He spoke with individuals who stopped by our table, shared information about ODB Kitchen, and represented us extremely well.

I eventually had to head home and lay down, but Jesse stayed and continued to represent Our Daily Bread Kitchen. That’s what teamwork is all about!

I truly appreciate you, Jesse, for stepping up when needed. Thank you for helping us continue to share our mission and connect with people in our community! 🙏🏾❤️
