Randolph Community College is excited to announce that June will be Career Exploration Month. Throughout the month, they will be offering several interactive sessions entitled “A Day in the Life Of,” designed to help individuals explore different career paths and learn directly from industry professionals.

These two-hour sessions provide participants with the opportunity to ask questions, gain real-world insight, and engage in hands-on demonstrations and activities related to various careers. The sessions are open to graduating seniors, individuals considering a career change, unemployed or underemployed adults, and anyone interested in learning more about a particular profession.

Randolph EDC adds new administrator

An industry executive with experience in operations, finance and human resources has joined the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation as administrative director.

Malynda Shumaker most recently served as chief operating officer of Markham Metals Inc. in Asheboro, where she played a key role in overseeing financial management, human resources, compliance and day-to-day operations for a 30-plus employee organization, according to a news release. Shumaker’s experience also includes roles in property management and municipal government, where she developed a strong foundation in accounting, public administration and community engagement.

"Throughout her tenure, she demonstrated a strong ability to manage complex business functions, lead teams, and implement systems that improve efficiency and organizational performance," the release said.

In her new role with RCEDC, Shumaker will support internal operations, financial processes and organizational initiatives that enhance service delivery to existing and prospective industries.

“I’m excited to join the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation and contribute to the important work being done to support local industry and economic growth,” Shumaker said. “I look forward to working with the team and helping strengthen the organization’s impact across the community.”

Her expertise in budgeting, payroll, compliance, and administrative leadership will help ensure the organization continues to operate at a high level while advancing its strategic economic development goals, said Kevin Franklin, president of RCEDC.

“Her extensive background in operations and finance, combined with her strong leadership and attention to detail, make her a tremendous asset to our organization and the businesses we serve," Franklin said.

Bus companies to create 60-80 jobs

Randolph Rises investor, Holiday Tours to create 60-80 new jobs in Randolph County. The company broke ground last Wednesday on a new 50,000 square-foot building that will be used for tour bus maintenance as well as a new spin-off paint and body business. Holiday Tours, a travel company, plans to spend $15 million for the construction of the building at 10538 US 220 Busniess North. The building will be split down the middle, with one half housing a new Holiday Tours business, Carolina Custom Paint and Body, and the other half a service center for Prevost, a subsidiary of Volvo that manufactures buses said David Moody, president of Holiday Tours. Prevost will lease its space from Holiday Tours.
