We're excited to share an update on Phase II of the Enka Recreation Destination Project at Buncombe County Sports Park! Construction has begun on the artificial turf installation for Fields 3, 4, and 5, which marks a major milestone in the continued enhancement of this community asset.
This phase of work will significantly improve field durability, playability, and year-round usability for youth sports, leagues, and community events. In addition to the turf improvements, Phase II also includes enhancements to the adjacent walking path, ensuring a safer, more accessible, and higher quality experience for park users.
During construction, the section of the walking path adjacent to Fields 3, 4, and 5 will be temporarily closed for safety reasons. This portion of the path is anticipated to reopen in May of this year, at which time users will be able to enjoy a newly improved walking surface.
All other sections of the walking trail and park will remain open throughout construction. We encourage walkers, runners, and park visitors to continue using the walking path around Fields 6 and 7, which will be accessible during this phase of work.
We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this project. Phase II represents another important step in delivering a high-quality, destination-level recreation facility that serves residents and visitors alike.
We can't wait to welcome you back to the improved fields and walking path this spring! ⚽
