Since 1922, the Charles George VAMC in Asheville has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. Services are available to more than 100,000 veterans living in a 19-county area of Western North Carolina. The Medical Center is named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient and member of the Cherokee Nation Charles George. This page provides a forum for learning

how VA provides health care, benefits, and burial and memorial services to our nation's Veterans. The purpose of this page is for VA to post and comment on questions and concerns regarding VA's mission, and to allow veterans, service members, their spouses and families the opportunity to dialogue regarding these issues. Please note this page does not exist to provide individual medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It is not continuously monitored and does not provide emergency services. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. If you are in emotional crisis, or are concerned about a Veteran or current service member, call the Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 (press "1"). On this page, the CGVAMC aims to create an open discussion and encourages helpful and useful comments regarding the applicable topics. While VA will not collect or retain these comments in our records, posted comments and images do not necessarily represent the views of VA. Please join us for our Freedom 250 Celebration and Veterans Town Hall happening today at 5p.m. We have changed the venue up a little though; today we will be located at the Charles George VA's outside stage. Just follow the red white and blue wavy men between the Medical Center and the Community Living Center.

The Charles George VA Medical Center is implementing a major modernization effort inside its clinical and sterile processing departments by replacing traditional tape labels on medical instruments with permanent laser engraving.

The change, now being phased in across surgical and procedural areas, represents a shift toward greater safety, cleanliness and accountability in patient care.
