Youth OutRight We envision a world where youth of all gender and sexual identities are empowered to reach their full potential. Founded in 2006, Youth OUTright WNC, Inc.

(YO) is the only youth advocacy and leadership non-profit organization in the region solely dedicated to empowering lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer, intersex, asexual and allied (LGBTQIA+) youth ages 11-20 in Western North Carolina. We provide information, support and resources in a safe, inclusive and affirming environment. We believe that no youth – regardless of their sex

ual identity, gender expression or gender identification – should be bullied, harassed or discriminated against because of who they are or are perceived to be. Based on 2010 U.S. Census figures, it is estimated that there could be more than 4,000 LGBTQ youth in our 18-county region.

Besides providing free school supplies, our Back-At-School Youth Drive will also equip Q***r & Trans students with resources for self-advocacy, safety, and navigating the inherently oppressive school systems. ✊🌈

🤔 Why do these kinds of resources matter? See this tidbit from :

Across two national survey samples, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive students reported harmful school policies or practices as well as meaningful sources of support: 56% reported attending a school with at least one discriminatory policy, while 97% said they had at least one supportive educator at their school.

This indicates that LGBTQIA+ students have the option to partner with supportive educators to create positive change—but they need to know how to approach it. That's where we come in! ⭐️

We will provide free backpacks, free water bottles, free school supplies, and free resources for LGBTQIA+ students. 🏳‍🌈👩🏽‍🎓👨🏻‍🎓⁠

Q***r, questioning, and allied youth ages 11-13 are invited to join us for some fall fun with RiverLink! This program happens weekly on Wednesdays from 3 - 6 PM starting September 16th through November 4th. ⛵

⚠ This is an 8-week commitment! ⚠ Please do not RSVP if you cannot attend the majority of these programs.

A permission slip will be sent after RSVP, please be sure to fill it out and send it back to us before the start of this program! ✏
