Year after year, Rotary’s impact in Asheville includes opening doors for students.

In 2026, the Rotary Club of Asheville awarded $75,000 in needs-based Tennent Scholarships to students from across Buncombe County.

Established in 1998, the Tennent Scholarship program helps local students facing financial barriers pursue education beyond high school. The scholarships help close the gap between available financial aid and the actual cost of continuing their education.

Those dollars represent belief in young people and an investment in the future of our community.

Do you know a woman in business whose leadership deserves recognition?

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its 2026 WomanUP Awards. These awards recognize local innovators, mentors, entrepreneurs, executives, nonprofit leaders and rising stars who are making a difference through their work and leadership.

Self-nominations are encouraged. Nominees must work for an Asheville Chamber member company based in, founded in, or with a significant presence in Buncombe County.

ICYMI: This week’s Rotary Club of Asheville meeting brought together international friendship, upcoming opportunities to serve, and a closer look at the incredible volunteers caring for our region’s trails.

We welcomed Joanna Castro and Omar Mayorga from the Rotary Club of San Cristóbal in Venezuela and marked their visit with an exchange of club flags. We also welcomed Rotary Youth Exchange student Maria from Brazil. Susan Harper shared a Rotary Moment about the many volunteers who make these life-changing exchanges possible.

Members have several opportunities to get involved in September. Volunteers are needed at the North Carolina Arboretum on Saturday, September 12, from 9–11 a.m. to help restore a fence in the Plants of Promise garden.

On Saturday, September 26, members can support the Honor Flight as standby guardians or help welcome veterans home at the airport. Then, on Tuesday, September 29, join us at The Grey Eagle for a social and documentary screening benefiting CART and its support of Alzheimer’s research.

Our program featured Carolina Mountain Club President Karen Schultz and Vice President Paul Curtin. The organization maintains 440 miles of trails, leads more than 200 guided hikes annually and contributes approximately 44,000 volunteer hours each year. They shared how hands-on projects and community partnerships help preserve the trails and natural spaces that make our region so special. Fun Fact: their organization is 100% run by volunteers!

A fun evening with the Rotary Club of Asheville at the Asheville Tourists game! After a rain delay, we were treated to a high-scoring game, with Brooklyn winning 16–12. The Tourists put up a great fight right to the end.

📣 ICYMI: Here's a few highlights from today's meeting!

We’re currently hosting three inbound Rotary Youth Exchange students and recruiting next year’s outbound students over the next 70 days. Members also have the opportunity to match our weekly CART bucket, supporting Alzheimer’s research, through February 2027.

Some of our Rotarians are heading to Friday’s Asheville Tourists game for baseball, fellowship and a little U.S. state-capital trivia. ⚾

Dr. Aditi Sethi, the Executive Director of Emberlight joined us for a thoughtful conversation about bringing greater compassion and community into end-of-life care. She shared how Emberlight helps families remain present with their loved ones while trained volunteers provide bedside support in a home-like setting. She also encouraged open conversations and advance planning to help individuals and families feel more prepared. Thank you for sharing your work with us!

We talked about so much more!
