Week 2 of the Asheville Fire Department’s Citizens Academy. Participants learned about our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, Resource and Engagement Support Team (REST), and EMS branch. They also heard about our fire education initiatives, particularly the Stop the Bleed program. Week 3 begins this evening, featuring presentations from the department's administrative team. Meet Our Members: This month, we’re introducing you to Tre Allen, Senior Deputy Fire Marshal. Allen talks about his start with AFD at Station 8, his most memorable call, why he moved over to the Fire Marshal’s Office, what someone interested in working for the Fire Marshal’s Office should do to get prepared for the job, and reflects on working the day Hurricane Helene hit and how it’s still impacting our area.

World Bicycle Day is tomorrow! The 2026 Carolina Brotherhood Ride is a month away. Every year, firefighters from the Asheville Fire Department participate and see firsthand the tremendous impact this group of men and women has on families who have lost loved ones in the Line of Duty, both financially and emotionally. This year, Division Chief Rich Rauschenbach and Firefighter Chris Ellis will ride approximately 600 miles across North Carolina and South Carolina to support this cause. Ongoing road work has more road closures ahead this week. Be aware that from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, June 1, to Thursday, June 4, the left lane of I-240 eastbound and Patton Avenue eastbound from the intersection of Regent Park Boulevard to the French Broad River bridge will be closed. Additionally, the left lane of I-26 eastbound and 23 southbound from exit 25 to mile marker 26 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
