While tornadoes in our mountains are rare, they are possible, and storms tonight increase our risk of severe and/or dangerous weather. Make a plan, keep a weather radio handy, and sign up for alerts at www.buncombecounty.org/codered.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible tonight after 11pm, starting in the far western NC mountains and crossing into NE Georgia, Upstate SC and NC Piedmont. Not every place will see a storm, but if one does occur, have multiple ways of receiving a warning.

We appreciate the people who’ve volunteered their time to assist our residents in need following Helene. As we shift into the recovery and resiliency phases, we ask that volunteers only come to Buncombe County if they have pre-arranged opportunities. Examples include being asked by a government agency or a local organization to assist with specific duties. If you don’t fit into one of those categories, you can always show support by donating to a reputable group helping survivors of the storm.
