Today was the Ashfield Firefighters Association annual picnic. For this event we invite our families and some close community friends to gather and enjoy each other’s company and some good food. We take this opportunity to present awards and recognize members that have achieved different levels of years of service from the commonwealth as well as levels of service recognized specifically by our department. In addition, this is the second year Chief Walker has presented the “Fire Chief’s Good Jake Award” recognizing outstanding service and contributions to the department.
These pictures show members listed below receiving their respective awards, certificates and commemorative pins.
-Retired Chief and now Auxiliary Member Del Haskins - 50 years (last year)
-Retired FF and now Auxiliary Member Bill Burnett - 45 years (last year)
-Retired FF and now Auxiliary Member Deb Craven - 45 years (last year)
-Capt. Colleen Walker - 20 years
-Assistant Chief Matt Haskins - 25 years
-Chief Kyle Walker - 25 years
-Pvt/FF Matt Thompson - Good Jake Award
-Aux. Member George Stephan - Thin Red Line pin (for his contributions to the fire service)
-Not pictured/present: Pvt/FF Malik Johnson - 10 years.
-Also not pictured/present: Aux. Member/Clerk Lynne Meehan who will also receive the Thin Red Line pin (for her supportive contributions to the fire service).
Even though some of our members were not able to be there, we managed to get a group photo with 17 of our 22 members. This was a great opportunity since it is near impossible to get us all in the same place at the same time.
Congratulations to all and thank you family, friends, colleagues and community members for your support.

From the Ashfield Highway Department. Please see the attached description and graphic. Follow a simple “one-way around” approach, similar to a traffic circle to go the direction you need to go.

Due to a number of near accidents, the traffic flow at the intersection of Norton Hill Road and Steady Lane has been altered. Each side of the fork on Norton Hill is now being reduced to a one-way lane, with traffic needing to use the appropriate lane for the direction they plan to take. For those heading eastward from Steady Lane to Norton Hill, drivers should use the southern fork. For those turning from Norton Hill onto Steady Lane, they should use the northern fork regardless of whether they are traveling north or south. A simple graphic can be seen below.

Extreme heat is coming tomorrow thru Saturday. Please exercise caution if you must do outside activities and limit your exposure to the heat.

The a portion of Belding Memorial Library will be open from 9am-6pm as a cooling center Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No food or drinks will be provided so please plan accordingly.

Be safe this 4th of July… leave the fireworks to the professionals.

Massachusetts law prohibits the possession, use, and sale of fireworks without professional licensing and certification. It also requires police to confiscate any illegal fireworks they encounter -- even if they were bought legally elsewhere. Don't risk a fire, traumatic injury, or a day in court.
