Due to low relative humidity values combined with the already dry fuels will present a period of increased fire danger for the next several days. Open burning is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED!

Please exercise caution handling any potential ignition source including machinery, ci******es, and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.

Winter weather is headed our way in Hanover, so now is the time to get prepared and stay safe!

Here are some quick tips to prep your home for the upcoming winter weather in Hanover:

Seal it up: Check weather stripping around doors and windows, close drafts, and consider towels or draft stoppers at the base of leaky doors to keep warm air in and cold air out.

Protect your pipes: Insulate any pipes along exterior walls, open cabinet doors under sinks on bitter cold nights, and learn how to shut off your water in case a pipe bursts.

Plan for power outages: Stock up on flashlights (not candles), extra batteries, blankets, and a three-day supply of food and water that does not need cooking or refrigeration.

Heat safely: Have fireplaces, wood stoves, and space heaters inspected, keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away, and never use ovens, grills, or generators to heat your home.

Check alarms and backup: Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, make sure they have fresh batteries, and know where you would go if you lost heat for an extended period.
