💜 Help us create our annual display of 100 purple flags.

Each purple flag represents approximately 10 lives lost to fatal overdose. In 2025, there were 978 fatal overdoses among Massachusetts residents.
Each flag is a reminder that behind every number is a person, a family, and a community affected by loss.

There will be milling & paving work happening on Union, Fountain & Prospect St in the upcoming days. This is night work scheduled to be done from 7:30PM to 5:30AM. See below for the upcoming days & streets being worked on.

September 2nd - Milling work on Union St. from Chestnut St. to Fountain St. and on Fountain St. from Union St. to the bridge. If time allows they will start on Prospect St.

September 3rd - Milling on Prospect St. from the Holliston Town Line to Chestnut St.

September 13th - Paving on Union & Fountain St

September 14th & 15th - Paving on Prospect St.

🚦📚 Back to School Starts Monday! 📚🚦

The first day of school is exciting—but it also means more children, buses, bicyclists, and crossing guards will be out on our streets.

As students return to school on Monday, August 31, please do your part to keep everyone safe:

🛑 Slow down in school zones
🚌 Stop for school buses when required by law
🚸 Watch for crossing guards and children crossing the street
📵 Put the phone away and stay focused on the road
🚗 Leave a few minutes early to avoid rushing

Officers from the Ashland Police Department and members of the Ashland Fire Department will be out helping ensure a safe start to the school year.

Please be advised that we are now in Stage 2 water restrictions, as the reservoir level is currently below 295.35 feet.

Stage 2 restrictions apply when the Hopkinton Reservoir falls below 295.35 feet or daily use exceeds 5.90 mg. The restrictions are as follows:

i. All Stage 1 Restrictions (listed below)
- Unattended watering using municipally-supplied water is prohibited.
- Car washing using municipally-supplied water is prohibited.
- Washing of structures (including but not limited to buildings, houses, sheds, driveways, sidewalks, decks, fences, or patios) using municipally-supplied water is prohibited.
- Filling and topping off of swimming pools larger than 300 gallons using municipally-supplied water is prohibited.
ii. Handheld watering using municipally-supplied water is prohibited

We are extending these water restrictions until September 30th, to help our reservoir recover.

Central Mass Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) will be in Ashland on the following dates in September to respond to residents' concerns about mosquitoes in their area: September 14, September 21, and September 28, 2026.

CMMCP's residential spraying program will cease after Labor Day and will stop taking resident requests for spraying after August 28, 2026. They will try to service as many residents as possible who have requested spraying, depending on evening temperatures.

We are entering into the highest risk part of the season, a time when spraying interventions may not always be possible. Please continue to follow the precautions below:
- Use mosquito repellent any time you are outdoors. Even being out a short time can be long enough to get a mosquito bite. Make sure to follow directions on the label.
- Be aware of mosquitoes around you. If mosquitoes are biting you, reapply repellent, or think about going inside.
- Be aware of peak mosquito hours. The hours from dusk to dawn are peak biting times for many mosquito species. Take extra care to use repellent and wear protective clothing during the evening and early morning, or consider avoiding outdoor activities during these times.
- Use mosquito netting on baby carriages or playpens when your baby is outdoors.
- When weather permits, wear long-sleeves, long pants and socks when outdoors.
- Make sure screens are repaired and tightly attached to doors and windows.
- Remove standing water from places like ditches, gutters, old tires, wheelbarrows, and wading pools. Mosquitoes can begin to grow in any puddle or standing water that lasts for more than four days, so don’t let water collect around your home.
- Avoid camping overnight near freshwater swamps to reduce your risk of exposure to mosquitoes that carry the EEE virus. If you do go camping, use a tent with mosquito netting and use appropriate repellents.

Join us for International Overdose Awareness Day on Monday, August 31, from 3:30–5:30 PM as we come together to remember those we have lost, support those impacted by overdose, and strengthen our commitment to prevention, education, and hope.

This free event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome. Together, we'll honor loved ones, raise awareness about overdose, and help reduce stigma while fostering a community of understanding and support.

This event takes place outside the Ashland Public Safety Building located at 12 Union St. Due to limited parking at the public safety building we ask that people park at Ashland High School, located at 65 E Union St.
