Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Maine Warden Service and the family of the Warden who lost his life in this tragedy.

We are heartbroken to share that a Maine Game Warden died this morning following a plane crash in Avon, near Schoolhouse Pond. The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m.

This is a devastating loss for the Maine Warden Service, our Department, and the people of Maine. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy.

We will share additional information as it becomes available.

This is a reminder that even though the weather is getting nicer, school is still in session and busses are still moving children. Locally we have had several passing a stopped school bus violations over the past few weeks. Passing a stopped school bus with its lights flashing is a Class E crime with a fine of $500 for the first offense and a possibility of having your license suspended. This pales in comparison to what could happen if the unthinkable happens and you strike a child embarking or disembarking a stopped bus. Slow down, pay attention to your surroundings and help us keep our children safe. Thank you.

In rural Northern Maine policing, we do everything from the simplest tasks to the most dangerous when they need to be done, and everything in between. We are social workers, school resource officers, mechanics, dog catchers, baby sitters, teachers, literally everything. Sometimes the day can be quite overwhelming and stressful. Then there are days like today when something really awesome happens. Meet Cooper. Cooper is an amazingly good natured and goofy pup. Today we assisted in re-homing Cooper from some folks who could no longer care for him. Today was one of the good days.

NARCAN is safe for the general public to possess and administer. To get NARCAN and training on how to administer it free of charge, contact Maine Access Points at (207) 319-8823, or email them at: [email protected]. Until we can get the opioid crisis under control, it's important for people to arm themselves with as much knowledge as possible on the subject. This isn't just a law enforcement problem, it's a public health crisis and it's going to take all of us to fight it together.

Good evening everyone. I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who participated in our distracted driving video. I also want to thank everyone who appreciated what we were trying to accomplish. Because the posiitve response was so overwhelming, Safety Sam and I have decided to do an entire series of these short safety videos. If you enjoyed the first one, stay tuned. A new video will be launched every other week through the warmer months.
