**UPDATE** The goat was successfully returned to its rightful owner shortly after this was posted. Given that a baby goat is a "kid", we do not believe this is a case of "kidnapping" at this time.

This nefarious goat was running down Main Street and is now in the possession of the Ashland Police Department, if everyone could kindly check their stables and/or pastures and report back to us.

ARREST MADE - In Reference to Arson Investigation

On 04/01/2026, there was a suspicious house fire on Cross Road in Ashland. After a lengthy investigation, arrest warrants were issued for CODY CROSS on one count of Arson via the NH Fire Marshal's Office, and 5 counts of Breach of Bail through the Ashland Police Department.

Cross was taken into custody by the Meredith Police Department on 04/26/2026 and is currently incarcerated pending arraignment on 04/27/2026.

The Ashland Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement partners at the Meredith Police Department, Center Harbor Police Department, NH Fire Marshal's Office, Plymouth Police Department and US Marshals for their assistance in taking Cross into custody.

An arrest is not an admission of guilt, and Mr. Cross is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The officer’s names have yet to be released pending the Major Crimes Unit and the AG’s Office investigation. There is no reason to believe that the officers involved will not make a full recovery.

The Ashland Police Department was involved in an incident on 04/20/2026, and we would like to keep our community informed as much as possible, but due to the nature of the investigation we cannot comment further or provide the names of those involved at this time. There is no known threat to the public, and we will provide further updates through the NH Attorney General's Office when they become available.

Stop by the Ashland Police Department this Saturday, April 25, from 10 AM - 2 PM for National Drug Take-Back Day.

Local residents / businesses can now register their security cameras with us, which will be used as a reference during investigations by officers to see if cameras may have captured evidence nearby.
