At Advocates for Families, we believe mentoring is about more than fun activities. It’s about showing up consistently, creating safe spaces, and helping children and teens across Ashland County know they are not alone.

With the guidance of a trusted mentor, moments like this can help young people build confidence, strengthen relationships, and feel supported as they navigate life.

Some kids need a stage. Others just need a quiet place to explore.

A few rocks to climb over.
A little water to splash through.
A chance to be curious, confident, and fully themselves.

Play is more than something children do for fun. It helps them build independence, problem-solving skills, and trust in their own abilities.

Through mentoring, children get opportunities to explore the world around them with the support of caring adults nearby.

At Advocates for Families, we believe every Ashland County child deserves space to grow, discover, and feel proud of who they are.

Great mentors give young people the chance to laugh, play, explore, and build trusting relationships with adults who show up for them.

Those relationships help children feel seen, supported, and encouraged as they grow.

At Advocates for Families, we believe every child in Ashland County deserves that support.

Baby ducklings at the Loudonville Public Library!

When children get hands-on experiences with animals, they practice curiosity, patience, gentleness, and confidence.

They learn how to care, how to notice, and how to connect with the world around them.

At Advocates for Families, mentoring is about more than activities. It’s about giving young people safe, positive experiences that help them grow.

This is our community. Let’s take care of it.

This past Saturday, our mentoring clients rolled up their sleeves and got to work at Make Ashland Sparkle. Spreading mulch and bringing new life to the flower beds at Freer Field.

When young people are given the chance to contribute, they start to see themselves as someone who belongs there. Someone who can make a difference. Someone who takes pride in where they live.

Through mentoring and hands-on experiences, we’re building connection, responsibility, and confidence.

Because strong communities are built by people who show up.

Give a child a screen, and they’ll be entertained for a moment.
Give them space to explore, and they'll create something that lasts.

There’s something powerful about watching a child slow down, get curious, and build something with their hands.

Outdoor play helps children build confidence, problem-solving skills, patience, and independence. It gives them room to imagine, experiment, and discover what they’re capable of.

At Advocates for Families, we believe kids in Ashland County need more opportunities like this: time outside, supportive relationships, and the freedom to learn through play.

Because sometimes a few sticks, a little sunshine, and an adult who believes in them is all they really need.

Investing in great mentors means better outcomes for our kids.

We’re proud to share that Jeff, our Mentoring Team Lead, attended the 50th Annual Ohio Children's Alliance Spring Conference on behalf of Advocates for Families.

This opportunity will help our team to keep learning, growing, as Jeff brings back new ideas that strengthen the support we offer children and families in Ashland County.

Jeff’s leadership, care, and commitment to mentoring make a real difference, and we’re grateful to have him representing AFF.

Strong mentors keep getting stronger. Our community is better for it!

“I can do anything the boys can do. And maybe even better!”

That confidence doesn’t happen by accident.

It grows when girls get the chance to try new things, take healthy risks, and see proof that what they're doing matters.

At Advocates for Families, we believe every girl in Ashland County deserves opportunities to build confidence. Through mentoring and trusted relationships, young girls learn not just new skills, but a new way to see themselves.

When our girls grow up confident, our community benefits.

Who helped you to feel more confident in yourself? Tell us in the comments 😁
