The snow just keeps coming! ❄️

With another storm expected tonight, we’re asking residents to support our DPW team by keeping streets and parking lots clear. Plowing in winter conditions is tough work, and staying off the streets makes it safer and easier for crews to do their job and keep roads passable for everyone.

Ashland’s Seasonal Overnight Parking Ban is currently in effect:

🚫 Seasonal Overnight Parking Ban
πŸ“… November 1 – March 31
⏰ 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.
πŸ“ All public streets

No vehicle may be parked on any public street for more than one hour during these hours. This allows for snow removal, sanding, and emergency access. Vehicles in violation may be ticketed and/or towed.

Additional Parking Information:
β€’ Montenegro Square Lot (Front Street):
No parking for more than one hour between 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.

β€’ Snow Emergencies:
Additional on-street parking restrictions may apply during active storms or plowing operations.

❄️ Safety Reminder:
Please help keep your neighborhood safe by clearing snow away from fire hydrants near your home or business.

Thank you for your cooperation as we prepare for the storm and work to keep Ashland safe.

****Snow Update from Ashland DPW****
Please note that DPW crews are continually working to keep up with the large amounts of snow we had overnight. They began cleanup at 8am Sunday and are still out working hard to keep up with the continuing snowfall. They will begin sidewalk clearing tonight and into tomorrow. Please plan accordingly, be patient and use caution. Not all sidewalks will be cleared by tomorrow. Continual clean up will be ongoing for the next 2-3 days.
Please note that trash pickup is scheduled as usual this week. Waste Management has not let us know of any changes however, you may experience a few delays. Please wait to put your trash barrels out until early morning so that plows can still do their work tonight with this next burst of snow.
Thanks for your patience. Our DPW crew is one of the best and Ashland is lucky to have them on the job!

Post-Storm Cleanup
DPW is working hard to clean up after the last storm. The past month these back to back storms with snow and ice have made it difficult for DPW to keep up with treating roads and sidewalks. This last storm brought about a foot of snow, freezing rain, plain rain (heavy at times) and wind gusts up to 50 mph.
Our DPW crews began work at 6 pm on Saturday evening and worked straight through the night until about 5 pm on Sunday. Sanders were called back in around midnight on Sunday night after the streets re-froze. These long days and back to back storms have made it difficult for the crews to rest up before the next time they have to be out there again. Even after the snow is cleared the work continues. Today a handful of DPW employees addressed more icing calls, several potholes and downed trees.
Sidewalks around the five schools were cleared but there is more work to be done in many areas as the sidewalks are covered in ice. Even though temperatures rose above freezing yesterday afternoon, the rain caused street flooding due to snow and ice covering catch basins. Crews did their best to open up catch basins and address the sensitive historical flooding locations but it is impossible to ensure 90 miles of roadway is not going to ice up.
Over the weekend DPW received many calls about mailboxes getting damaged as the result of plowing the streets. Crews try hard to avoid this from happening, but the snow was very heavy and wet. It was impossible to push the snow, ice, slush and stormwater off the roadway without some mailboxes getting damaged. We ask for your patience and understanding with this. New England weather can be difficult and this past month has certainly proved that.
We appreciate the members of the DPW staff for their dedication, and stamina through sleepless nights and long days over the last four weeks and to their supportive families who miss them while they are away from home.
Crews will regroup tomorrow to look at the additional work that needs to take place to continue to clean up sidewalks and streets. Please be patient. The cold temps planned for this week will continue to make it difficult for crews. It will take three or four days to get everything back in shape but rest assured they are on it.
