Hey Ashland, as the ASB election nears, we want to inform you of our platform and ideas for the 2016-2017 school year.
We are running for the sheer purpose of bringing positive improvement to our school and movement towards the bettering of education. Not only are we running to represent you, but we are running to help YOU represent YOURSELF.
-Across all grades of AHS, there is a general theme of excessive stress and negative emotional health maintenance. We want to provide a resource center for mental health as well as providing more de-stress-related activities (such as amping up yoga, art activities, etc.).
-Create a more effective leadership class by increasing involvement of class presidents and providing leadership education resources to not only leadership students but to the rest of the AHS community
-The Wilderness Charter School, an alternative education grounded by environmental awareness, was promoted by AHS until budget cuts forced it to close in 2010. We want to try to develop an equivalent alternative schooling program (for a semester or a year, etc) for passionate students to engage in.
-We want to increase the community and participation in the student body at AHS by working with the administration to set up a Growers & Crafters market for AHS students on early release Wednesday on the quad to show and sell their food, art, ect. This may also include open mic opportunities for bands and singers to become recognized.
-We want to increase awareness and resources for sexual assault at our school specifically.
-We want to try to get coffee in the Snack Shack!
We know that previous ASB presidents talk about a lot of thing that they want to do in their campaign, but once elected, do not end up doing. As potential presidents it is our obligation to you to be authentic in the expression of our goals. Though not all of these things may fit with the school in the end, we guarantee that we will utilize our resources and experience to actually turn this platform into a reality.
