Ashley Firefighters are partnering with the DuBois Knights of Columbus for our rotation of Red Cross Blood Drives. The next drive will be held at the K of C Hall in DuBois on September 21 from 2-6 PM. There is a threat for strong to marginally severe thunderstorms today and Friday as multiple storm clusters move east-southeastward from the Great Plains towards the region. Confidence in the severe threat each day is low and depends on the track of each preceding thunderstorm complex, with damaging wind gusts being the main threat.

The Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory were extended until Thursday evening, despite a chance for storms today that may mitigate heat. Temperatures stay fairly hot, and dangerous heat index values are now forecast to linger through the weekend. Stay hydrated and watch for heat illness!

Ashley firefighters were proud to acknowledge Korean War Veteran Cpl. Jackie Lee Thurman who returned home to Norris City last Thursday. Cpl. Thurman's remains were identified by DNA testing after missing for 70 years. Veterans, police officers, firefighters and others lined overpasses along the route that included Interstate 64 through Washington and Jefferson County. 2 engines from Ashley Fire and a rescue from Irvington Fire are shown on the White Swan Road overpass.

NWS has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Washington County until 8 PM Wednesday.  Expect Heat index values of 100 plus for afternoon highs.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect today and Monday. The heat index is expected to climb to 110 and higher this afternoon, and again on Monday afternoon. Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. Drink plenty of water, sports drinks, or natural fruit juices to stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine as these tend to be dehydrating. If outdoor activity is unavoidable, take plenty of breaks in the shade, or in an air conditioned environment away from the heat.
