THIS WEEK!
Creating Memory Snapshots Workshop
Thursday, September 3rd, 2026
5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Even the most ordinary lives hold extraordinary moments, and when we’re able to share those experiences, we can have an impact on other people as well.

In the “Creating Memory Snapshots” 90-minute workshop for writers and non-writers alike, you’ll learn how to transform your memories into brief, engaging pieces to share with friends or family members or to use as a basis to create a memoir or family history.

Bring a notebook or paper, along with pens or pencils, and be prepared to explore those important times in your life!

Join Nancy Christie on Thursday, September 3rd, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to start your journey. The program is free and open to the public.

TODAY!

Ashtabula County During the American Civil War
Thursday, August 20, 2026
5:00 p.m.

At the outbreak of the American Civil War, over 320,000 Ohio citizens volunteered to serve in the Federal Army. Over 35,000 eventually become a casualty of the War. Ashtabula County, too, answered the call of war, with its recruits helping to form the 29th Ohio Infantry Regiment and the 11th New York Light Artillery. These soldiers served on many battlefields and suffered heavy casualties.

Join Professor Dennis Doyle at the Harbor-Topky Memorial Library on Thursday, August 20th, at 5:00 p.m. for his presentation "Ashtabula County During the American Civil War." Professor Doyle’s program will focus on the experiences Ashtabula County soldiers had during their Civil War service. He will also cover such topics as recruitment, training, the battle fought, and the soldier's motivation to serve.

A Chicago native, Professor Doyle grew up in Joliet, where he still resides. He has a master’s degree in history from American University in Washington, D.C.; a master’s degree in sociology from DePaul University in Chicago; and a bachelor’s degree in history from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Prof. Doyle recently semi-retired from teaching history and sociology at Joliet Junior College in Illinois He is the current VP and former president of the Civil War Round Table of Chicago.

This program is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. For any questions, please call the library at (440) 964-9645.
