With halloween being right around the corner we wanted to share another update on the progress of the Plymouth Township Fire Station renovation.

In the last couple of weeks, Union Industrial Contractors have continued their hard work with pouring the inside slabs of the original meeting room floor and front entryway. Framers have arrived and constructed the walls and roof joists along with felt and shingling. The electrical and hvac contractors have started installing their fixtures and demolition of the old offices by our volunteers is nearing completion. In the coming days the contractors are going to start drying in the addition and start framing the fire department space.

As the project continues, we will continue to provide updates.

For this month’s training, our firefighters practiced tanker shuttle, drafting and water supply operations. This training helps keep our firefighters prepared for rural water supply challenges. These challenges occur within most of our community with the limited access to municipal fire hydrants in 3/4 of our township.

Recently, we sent out our 2002 KME Tanker truck for frame rail preservation and maintenance work. The fire department spent around $22,000 to have the frame rails cleaned, treated, and coated to prevent and address areas of rust jacking. Along with this, we had the water and foam tank sensors and gauges replaced. Also, work lights on the truck were upgraded to LEDs for better visibility and safety during night time operations.

This maintenance is completed to help prolong the life of the truck and reduce down time. With costs of new tanker trucks being around $800,000 - $1 million, buying a new truck becomes a challenge. This kind of maintenance becomes a requirement to get the most life possible out of our units while coming up with ways to overcome these challenges.
