The District covers approximately 89 square miles between Lee and Ogle County. We also provide Ambulance service for part of the West Brooklyn Fire Dept. Today, the Ashton Fire Protection District pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the beginning of summer — it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we hold dear.
We remember the fallen, we stand beside their families, and we carry forward their legacy of courage, duty, and selfless service.

From all of us at the Ashton Fire Protection District, we wish our community a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we honor America’s heroes who will never be forgotten..

CHANGE OF PLANS :

Due to the forecasted rain coming this way, we are changing things up. We will now be putting a handful of flags out Monday morning at 7am & taking them down at 3pm. We will still take a few helpers if you’re willing (maybe a few students who need the impact/silver chord hours).
Please message our page if you’d like to help. We don’t want to get too many people. If you’re able to help, please meet at the Mills & Petrie @ 6:30 am on Monday. (Or at 3 pm if you’re able to help take down)

Thank you!!

It is with great respect and gratitude that we thank Chief Bernard "Stub" Richter for his many years of dedicated service.

Stub has served 13 years as Chief and an incredible 35 total years serving his community through the fire department. Most of our current members have never known the department without Stub being a part of it.

Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to this department and community will never be forgotten. You will truly be missed, and the lessons and teachings you shared with so many of us will continue to be remembered for years to come. We hope you enjoy your retirement from Fire/EMS service.

Thank you, Stub, for everything you have done.

Memorial Day weekend is upon us! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🇺🇸

We’d love to get the flags out at the cemetery for the weekend! (weather permitting)

But we come to our community for assistance, putting these flags out is a lot of work & we’d appreciate some help from you! There will be some “heavy” lifting involved (the flags aren’t necessarily super heavy, but they get to be a lot one after another!).

We’d love some man power from our community!
(If your high schooler needs impact/silver chord hours & is willing to do some heavy lifting, we will gladly sign their papers!)

As of right now we will be putting flags out at 7am on Saturday morning. This is weekend weather permitting (as they can’t be out with high winds/rain/storms).

If you are able to assist please comment below or message our page & we will make a final decision Thursday night or Friday morning. If you are able & you comment below/message us, someone will be in contact with you if things change. Feel free to leave a phone number to contact you at if that’s better for you.

We will make a post by Friday to let you know of any changes.

Our volunteer fire department needs your help.

Without volunteers, we cannot provide the emergency services our community relies on. Every call we answer, every family we help, and every emergency we respond to depends on people willing to serve.

If you have time to give and want to make a real difference in our community, please consider sending us a message to find out more.
