🚨 COMMUNITY SECURITY ALERT 🚨
A Message from the Ashville Police Department
Vehicle thefts and break-ins are often crimes of opportunity. Most occurrences involve unlocked doors or valuables left out in plain sight. By practicing a few simple habits, you can drastically reduce your risk of becoming a victim.
🔒 The #1 Rule: Lock Your Cars
Never leave your vehicle unlocked—even if you are just running into a store for a moment or parking in your own driveway.
Take your keys with you. Never leave a key fob or spare key inside the vehicle, glove box, or center console.
Secure the windows. Ensure all windows and sunroofs are completely rolled up before walking away.
💼 Vehicle Safety & Property Protection
Hide your valuables. Keep laptops, phones, purses, backpacks, and shopping bags out of sight. If you must leave them in the car, lock them in the trunk before reaching your destination.
Park under the lights. When parking away from home, choose well-lit, high-traffic areas. At home, consider installing motion-activated lighting over your driveway.
Don't leave your car running. Never leave an unattended vehicle idling to warm up or cool down, even in your own driveway.
📞 See Something? Say Something.
If you observe suspicious behavior around vehicles, or if your vehicle has been broken into, do not hesitate to report it.
