Aspen Fire Aspen Fire Protection District and Aspen Fire Department The Aspen Fire Protection District serves 87 square miles in Pitkin County.

It encompasses the Town of Aspen, and several unincorporated areas such as Woody Creek, Bruch Creek and Starwood. The Aspen Fire District is staffed by a combination of career and volunteer members who are state certified to handle diverse emergency calls. The district is comprised of geographically different areas ranging from downtown Aspen to sparse residential and mountainous terrain with sign

Aspen Fire Protection District is seeking a strong, mission-driven leader to help advance our wildland fire program.

The Lieutenant of Wildland plays a key leadership role in wildfire preparedness, fuels mitigation and risk reduction, wildland training programs, and interagency coordination. Working under the Battalion Chief of Wildland, this position supports operational readiness and represents AFPD in regional wildland collaboration efforts.

If you’re passionate about building a resilient, safety-driven wildland program and serving as a subject-matter expert in wildland fire operations, we encourage you to apply.

Reducing wildfire risk starts at home. Creating defensible space around your property is one of the most effective ways to protect your home and support community safety.
Aspen Fire’s Free Curbside Chipping Program helps residents dispose of slash, limbs, and small logs safely and efficiently.

✔️ What we accept:
• Brush
• Tree limbs
• Small logs (under 6” diameter)

❌ What we don’t take:
• Construction/lumber materials
• Roots
• Loose leaves or plant debris
• Machine-compacted piles

📍 Proper prep matters:
Stack cut ends facing the road and place piles within 5 feet of the roadway without blocking access.

Pickup dates are subject to address location during signup

The Seasonal Wildland Crew Member supports wildfire response, fuels mitigation, and community risk reduction efforts throughout the District and surrounding areas. This role plays a critical part in protecting life, property, infrastructure, and natural resources within the wildland-urban interface (WUI).

Seasonal Firefighters respond to wildland fires, assist with hazardous fuels projects, support preparedness efforts, and may deploy locally or nationally. This position requires physical endurance, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety and Aspen Fire’s mission.

2026 Hourly Wage Range:
$28.39 – $35.97
