⚠️🛑!!!SCAM ALERT!!🛑⚠️
Did you receive a text message with an image that looked like this? It looks quite official, it looks like you might even owe the City of Denver a fine for a missed ticket, but really it is just another scammer trying to trick you into sending them money or personal information. By scanning the QR code in the corner, you're taken to a cleverly crafted payment website that asks for your credit card information or some untraceable payment method. If you entered a credit card number, you will need to cancel that card immediately. If you provided bank information, call your bank to lock your accounts immediately. If you provided other personal information, call the three credit bureaus immediately so new accounts can't be opened in your name. These scammers are clever, but you are smarter. Learn more about how to protect yourself, identify scams, and report them by visiting the Federal Trade Commission's education website. https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-recognize-avoid-phishing-scams

IT’S SNOWING!! Cue the happy dance, the powder panic, and the urge to sprint for your skis… BUT HOLD UP

Before you chase that powder day, a few friendly (and very serious) reminders from your Aspen Police Department to keep the streets clear and everyone safe:

• No Overnight Parking - No Exceptions
No overnight parking in the commercial core between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. During snow events (like this one today), cars WILL BE TOWED- not because we’re mean, but because snowplows are bigger than your Subaru.

• Shovel Like You Mean It
Sidewalk safety is a team sport. Property owners and tenants must clear snow within three hours after snowfall ends (or by daybreak).
Please keep sidewalks, driveways, and mailboxes accessible - your mail carrier and neighbors will love you.

• Drive Smart (or Better Yet… Don’t)
Powder fever is real, but icy roads are no joke.
- Skip driving and ride RFTA
- If you must drive, make sure you’ve got proper tires
- Slow down, leave space, and pretend you’re transporting a wedding cake

These small steps make a big difference for emergency responders, plow operators, pedestrians, and your fellow snow-loving neighbors.

Enjoy your powder day—and THANK YOU for helping keep Aspen safe, clear, and moving!

Glenwood Canyon is currently closed and has no estimated time for reopening. Follow Colorado Department of Transportation for updates.

A reminder to all: Independence Pass is closed for the winter season and is not an alternative route.

❗TRAVEL ALERT | ROAD OPEN - I-70 in Glenwood Canyon❗

⚠ UPDATE 2:24 p.m. (1/13/26) - At this time, I-70 is open in both directions from Glenwood Springs (Mile Point 116) to Gypsum (MP 140).

⚠ UPDATE 1:15 p.m. (1/13/26) - At this time, there is still no estimated time for reopening of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon. Per the Eagle County Sheriff's Office Press Conference held at 1 p.m. today, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is still conducting their investigation in the area. We will provide updates here when available, but encourage commuters to visit the COtrip.org website or COtrip Planner App for roadway updates.

⚠ UPDATE 10:57 a.m. (1/13/26) - At this time, there is still no estimated time for reopening of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon. CDOT is directing travelers to use the northern alternative route which will add significant travel time due to the area's geography. Driving westbound on I-70: take Exit 157 Wolcott, north on CO 131 to US 40 near Steamboat Springs and follow until just west of Craig, then take CO 13 south and back onto I-70 at Rifle. Driving eastbound: take either Exit 87 or 90 at Rifle north on CO 13 to Craig, then east on US 40 past Steamboat Springs, then south on CO 131 to Wolcott and back onto I-70.
NOTE: some mapping services send commuters to seasonally closed roads or rugged 4WD trails not conducive to most vehicles. Check COtrip.org or the COtrip Planner App for the most accurate travel information.

⚠ UPDATE 8:30 a.m. (1/13/26) - The closure has been extended. Closure points are between Exit 114 in west Glenwood Springs and Exit 147 near Gypsum. Visit for updates.

🚫I-70 in Glenwood Canyon is CLOSED🚫- 7:30 a.m. (1/13/26) - I-70 is closed in both directions from Glenwood Springs (Mile Point 116) to Dotsero (MP 133) for police activity. Friendly Reminder to Aspen residents, visitors and downtown employees: Overnight Parking Restrictions Are Being Enforced (3–7 a.m.)

Winter parking restrictions are in effect for the commercial core between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Enforcement is now underway (tell your friends!)
• Vehicles parked during restricted hours are subject to a $75 ticket
• During snow events, vehicles may be towed, with fees up to $260
•Warnings are no longer being issued

This allows for effective snow plowing, proper drainage, and safe working conditions for streets crews. The parking, streets, and police departments are actively working together to keep Aspen’s roads safe and accessible throughout the winter season. Please plan ahead and move your vehicle before 3 a.m. to avoid tickets or towing.

You can avoid the roads altogether by taking advantage of our local transit partners RFTA Roaring Fork Transportation Authority and the Aspen Downtowner.

As always, if you had a couple drinks all the restaurants in Aspen have Tipsy Taxi vouchers for a free taxi ride home.
