Safe Bars: Making Prevention Everyone’s Responsibility 🤝

What if preventing sexual violence wasn’t left only to victim service organizations, but became a shared commitment across our whole community?

That’s the question behind Response’s Safe Bars initiative, and RFL Academy Teams 1 and 4 are taking it on together.

The teams will listen to stakeholders, explore what keeps businesses from getting involved, identify local champions, and help build a prevention approach that bars, restaurants, and hospitality spaces can embrace.

The goal: engage three to five establishments in an initial pilot to test what works.

Two teams. Double the potential. Different perspectives, relationships, and skills, all focused on building safer spaces for everyone in our valley.

Four teams. Three initiatives. One shared commitment. 💙

On October 2, our RFL Academy 2027 cohort weighed proposals, asked hard questions, and chose the Civic Impact Projects they’ll lead this year.

Their focus areas: preventing sexual violence, fostering belonging through recreation, and strengthening collaboration among nonprofit and civic organizations across our region.

Leadership is learned by doing, and this cohort is ready to get to work. 💙

Great leadership makes room for new ideas.

For Justin, one of the most valuable parts of the RFL experience was learning through teamwork and cooperation and opening his perspective to ideas different from his own.

When we listen, collaborate, and stay open to new perspectives, we become better leaders and stronger teams. 💙
