**PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT**
This morning, officers and medics responded to a medical emergency involving an older adult living alone. Calls like this are unfortunately common and they present serious challenges for first responders. Locked doors, no emergency contacts, no medical history and no list of medications can delay critical care when every second matters.
To help protect yourself or a loved one, we strongly recommend the following:
Use a medical alert device and keep it with you at all times. These systems are affordable and allow you to immediately notify medics in an emergency.
Ensure a trusted neighbor has a key. Building managers or maintenance staff often have keys, but they are not always available when emergencies occur.
Post essential information on your refrigerator, including:
Emergency contact (family member or close friend)
Primary care physician
Current medications
Brief medical history
Your DNR, if applicable
Place this information in a clearly visible spot using a magnet or tape.
These simple steps can save valuable time and may truly be the difference between life and death. Please take action now—your safety depends on it.
