🌟 Senior Gathering Highlights 🌟

What a wonderful afternoon at yesterday's Senior Gathering at the Astatula Community Center!

The Senior Gathering group was honored to welcome Kristina Young with SHINE Outreach, who provided valuable information regarding financial assistance programs available to Medicare beneficiaries. Kristina also shared important tips on recognizing, preventing, and reporting scams that frequently target seniors. The presentation offered practical resources and reminders to help our residents stay informed, protected, and empowered.

A special thank you to Kristina for taking the time to educate our community on these important topics and for helping our seniors become more "Scam Smart."

In addition to the informative presentation, members of The Senior Gathering partnered with the Astatula Police Department to prepare a care package for Sergeant First Class McDaniels and his platoon, to be sent overseas. This thoughtful gesture reflects the strong sense of community and support that makes Astatula such a special place.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event a success. Also, a huge thank you to Mayor Teeters for scheduling Kristina, from SHINE Outreach to come out and speak to the community! We look forward to seeing everyone at our next Senior Gathering!

🇺🇸 **Honoring Our Veterans – A Heartfelt Thank You** 🇺🇸

The Town of Astatula would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our special guests; Bobby Williams, Matt The Welder, and Dr. Frank W. Collige for joining us at the Astatula Cemetery to help honor the brave men and women who have served our nation.

Together, we placed new American flags at the gravesites of our veterans, ensuring their service and sacrifice are remembered and respected. Their participation helped make this a meaningful tribute to those who answered the call to serve.

We would also like to thank Mayor Teeters, the Astatula Town Council, and the many dedicated volunteers whose hard work and commitment made this event possible. Community events like these are a testament to the pride we take in remembering our veterans and preserving their legacy for future generations.

As Memorial Day approaches, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by our nation's heroes and to honor the memory of those who gave so much for our freedom.

🚨 **TEMPORARY BURN BAN IN EFFECT – TOWN OF ASTATULA** 🚨

The Town of Astatula has issued **Mayoral Directive No. 2026-02**, establishing a **temporary burn ban effective immediately** due to increased risk of uncontrolled fires caused by current environmental conditions.

🔥 **What You Need to Know:**
• **All outdoor open burning is prohibited**, including yard debris burning, open piles, and uncontained fires.
• **All burn permits are suspended**—no new permits will be issued at this time.
• **Outdoor cooking** using propane, natural gas, or charcoal grills is still permitted **when used safely**.

👮‍♂️ **Enforcement:**
This directive will be enforced by law enforcement, code enforcement, and authorized personnel.

📅 **Duration:**
The burn ban will remain in effect **until officially rescinded or replaced**.

This action has been taken to protect the safety of our residents, property, and community.

Burn Ban in effect...

A burn ban is in effect for Lake County until further notice due to the extreme wildfire threat from increasingly dry conditions. The decision follows the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) reaching 500 or higher, activating the County’s wildfire prevention protocol. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they see smoke or burning during the ban.
