Even with rain in the forecast, it is still best to cover your pile and wait to burn. Fuels across the state remain extremely dry and we're going to need more consistent wetting rains before it's safe to debris burn.

Excellent post from our neighbors in Forest Grove. With a large number of local resources [ODF staff, local fire departments, and independent operators] deployed to other parts of the state right now, it is imperative to invest a little extra time in fire prevention.

If you had a burn pile this Spring, take a hose and soak it again.

At 4:30 this afternoon we responded to a reported brush fire on NW Highway 47. We arrived to find an old burn pile had reignited due to the high temperatures. Thankfully it didn’t yet spread to nearby grass and brush.

Old burn piles can hold heat deep down for months and reignite with warm or windy conditions. Remember that land owners can be held responsible for cost associated with fires and damage to other property if their burn piles cause fires.

The Fire Danger Level in NW-2 and NW-3 has been raised to High as of today. Make sure you check the Public Use Restrictions for your location at http://tinyurl.com/ODFFireRestrictions
