Training Information

On Wednesday, April 15, Lewis & Clark Rural Fire Protection District (RFPD) hosted a multi‑agency training focused on vehicle fires with entrapment. Crews from Astoria Fire Department, Seaside Fire & Rescue, and Elsie‑Vinemaple Fire Department joined us for the evening drill. Four engines were used to run eleven different evolutions, including live‑fire scenarios and simulated driver and passenger entrapments. Firefighters practiced hose deployment, coordinated fire attack, and the use of vehicle extrication tools under realistic conditions. These hands‑on drills strengthen interagency coordination, build confidence, and ensure our teams are ready for rapid, effective response on real incidents. We appreciate our partner agencies for training with us and supporting community safety.

Please plan accordingly for the three bridge closures.

THREE OVERNIGHT BRIDGE CLOSURES
Bridge closures and road work could cause disruptions this week.
Three bridges have full overnight closures so that Oregon Department of Transportation can make inspections: New Youngs Bay (Highway 101), Old Youngs Bay (Highway 101 Business), and the Lewis and Clark River Bridge (also on 101 Business).
** New Youngs Bay – full closure from 8 p.m. Monday (April 27) to 6 a.m. Tuesday (April 28).
** Old Youngs Bay – full closure for two nights, 7 p.m. Wednesday (April 29) to 6 a.m. Thursday (April 30) and from 7 p.m. Thursday (April 30) to 6 a.m. Friday (May 1).
** Lewis & Clark River – full closure from 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 28) to 6 a.m. Wednesday (April 29).
Hazardous tree removal along Highway 30 east of Astoria could cause some delays for drivers as well. Work begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday (April 28) on both sides of the highway near Fern Hill Road. No delays are expected to be longer than 20 minutes.

Press Release

On January 4th at approximately 11:25, Lewis and Clark Fire Department was dispatched to 88918 Youngs River Road for a report of a dog stuck in a culvert. L&C members arrived on scene and found a dog in a steep ravine with a flowing creek, about 30 ft below a shared residential driveway. Utilizing a mega mover, ladder and ropes, firefighters were able to safely climb down. Utilizing the mega mover, they wrapped the dog up and brought it back up.
Talking to those who called it in, they stated the dog had been trapped in the bottom overnight. After placing the dog inside our warm rescue, we reunited the dog back to his owner who resided nearby.

Today begins the daily closure of the Old Young's Bay Bridge

Oregon Department of Transportation crews will replace wooden parts of the bridge that have deteriorated. Four timber support beams under the bridge will be replaced and one timber foundation support post, or pile, will be replaced.

There could be additional work if more deterioration is discovered. The bridge is more than 100 years old.

Crews will work mostly during the day. Expect single-lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. If there are any excessively high tides, crews may need to switch to night work to stay on schedule.

Work is expected to continue into the new year.

It seems all the bridges in and around Warrenton have gotten attention this year. Maintenance was done on the Youngs Bay Bridge (Highway 101), the Lewis & Clark River Bridge (Highway 101 Business), and the Skipanon River Bridge (Spur 104/Fort Stevens Highway).
