To be perfectly honest, I have been gauging 10 meter band conditions with the beacon subband forever, but lately a CB handheld from 1986 has been great. Almost 6 foot antenna doesn't make it comfortable for handheld, but it's workable 😄

I see so many setups in this vein with Emergency Communication stressed, but I'm still feeling it for a hobbyist approach. Turn the Ammo Can into Plastic for cheap/light, AND drop it down to one radio for my sweet spot.

I know a Ham who has radios in every room, but all those radios require antennas too. This is what the Landlord chooses to ignore after almost five years on the 6th floor of a hundred year old building that's likely the birthplace of Cable TV in Astoria Oregon. Barely visible in this shot are hanging lights in courtyard of Fort George, which is a Brewery in 2025, but in 1811 was a Military Outpost. My HF antenna is a Triband 10-15-20 efhw and my VHF/UHF is an Ebay find by N9TAX. I usually run 100 watts from home, but during contests I can get upward of a kilowatt on 110 volts AC Power

I was having Coffee with another Ham this morning that informed me Echolink went live in 1997 when most who had Internet access had dial-up. I first used it via my PC in 2003 and had it RF linked to a VHF simplex frequency for several years as well. How about you?
