๐Ÿ† Award-Winning Success for Downtown Atascadero! ๐Ÿ†

The City of Atascadero is proud to announce that the El Camino Real Downtown Parking and Safety Enhancements Project (The ECR Project) has received multiple prestigious statewide and regional awards for innovation, sustainability, safety, and community impact.

The project earned recognition from the League of California Cities, American Public Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Planning Association! All of which highlight Atascadero's commitment to creating a safer, more vibrant Downtown for residents, businesses, and visitors.

These awards celebrate a project that transformed the heart of Downtown Atascadero with:

๐Ÿšถ Safer pedestrian crossings and sidewalks
๐Ÿš— Approximately 130 new free parking spaces
โ™ฟ ADA accessibility improvements
๐Ÿ’ก Enhanced street and decorative lighting
๐ŸŒณ More than 25 new street trees and landscaping improvements
๐Ÿ”ง Replacement of a nearly 100-year-old sewer main

What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that this project was shaped by years of community input and collaboration with residents, businesses, project partners, and stakeholders who helped bring the vision to life.

The ECR Project was completed on time and within budget, creating a safer, more welcoming, and vibrant Downtown while preserving the authentic character that makes the City special.

And the exciting news doesn't stop there, as these award-winning achievements will now advance to state and national competitions, putting Atascadero in the spotlight as a model for innovative community investment and thoughtful planning.

๐Ÿฆ‹โœ‚๏ธRibbon Cutting at the New Monarch & Pollinator Native Habitat!

Yesterday, we celebrated the official opening of Atascaderoโ€™s new Monarch & Pollinator Native Habitat along with City Council, City Staff, the Central Coast Zoo, Central Coast Zoo Foundation, and our amazing community partners, including Madrone Landscapes, Olwyn Kingery Design, the Atascadero Land Preservation Society (ALPS), and the UC Master Gardeners.

Located at Morro Road/Highway 41 and US-101 off-ramp, this new habitat serves as a vital "rest stop" for Monarch butterflies and other pollinators traveling between the renowned butterfly groves of Monterey and Pismo Beach while beautifying a key gateway into our community.

This area includes a diverse array of native species, including coyote brush, coyote mint, California asters, seaside daisies, native sages, and several varieties of milkweed, all selected to support Monarch butterflies and other pollinators throughout their life cycles.

Thank you to everyone who helped transition this space into a thriving native habitat that will support wildlife, education, and environmental stewardship for years to come.

๐Ÿšง๐ŸŽ‰Breaking Ground on the Future of Public Safety! ๐Ÿšง๐ŸŽ‰

Today, the City of Atascadero celebrated the official groundbreaking of the new Public Safety Facilities Center Project at Fire Station 1, marking the beginning of a transformative investment in the safety and well-being of our community.

Mayor Charles Bourbeau, City Council, City leadership, and our Fire and Police Chiefs joined community members to commemorate this important milestone. Following the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to meet public safety personnel, learn about the project, and get an up-close look at emergency response equipment, including the City's new fire engine! ๐Ÿš’
