Project Concern, Inc. manages two Senior Citizens centers in A
tchison County, Kansas. These centers are the locations of our site nutrition programs; Project Concern Senior Center, 504 Kansas Avenue in Atchison and Effingham Town & Country, 411 Main Street in Effingham. Meals are provided to meet one-third of the recommended daily allowance and are approved by a registered dietician. They are low in sugar, salt, and fat. Reservations for meals can be made by phone or in person, one day in advance. For patrons 60 and over, the suggested donation is $3.00 per meal. For patrons under 60 years of age, there is a charge of $6.00 per meal. We provide ample education and informational materials. A monthly calendar of events and menu are available to all patrons. ATCHISON SENIOR CENTER
Atchison Senior Center is open 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, closed for holidays. Lunch is served at 11:45 am. Weekly organized activities are as follows: Bingo daily at 12:30 pm, Art class on Thursday at 9:00 am, and bible study on Mondays at 10:30am. Special activities are scheduled for holiday parties, entertainment, and guest speakers. Cards, conversation, and TV are available for your enjoyment daily. Suggestions for activities are always welcomed. EFFINGHAM TOWN AND COUNTRY CENTER
The Effingham Town and Country Center is open from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday thru Friday. Lunch is served at 11:30 am. Activities include cards, crafts, bible study, and bingo. Also available are books, TV, puzzles, and lots of coffee and conversations. A monthly potluck is held the fourth Friday of each month. Films, guest speakers, parties, and entertainment are held from time to time. TRANPORTATION SERVICES
The Project Concern, Inc. transportation program provides this service to all residents of Atchison County. Transportation is given for medical trips, shopping, employment, school, and social activities. Those who wish to attend the Senior Center can receive a ride to the center and back home. Two buses are in operation in Atchison County, Monday thru Saturday with Project Concern being the origin of dispatch. These buses are dispatched according to availability on a first come, first serve basis to various locations throughout the county. Cost is $3.00 per round trip within city limits and $10.00 per roundtrip for outside city limits within Atchison county. Tickets are also available for 11 rides (within city limits) for $30.00. All vehicles are equipped with mobile device lifts. Call (913)367-4655 for information. HOME DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM
In order to enable homebound older patrons to live independently in their homes, Project Concern delivers hot nutritious meals to their homes five days a week, Monday thru Friday. These meals are delivered by friendly volunteers. There is a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal for those 60 or older that are eligible, eligibility determined by Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging.
