A complex of storms is expected to move into the region overnight Monday into early Tuesday morning. The primary hazards are heavy rainfall and damaging winds up to 85 MPH.

Isolated storms are also possible earlier this evening (20% chance) but with a lower severe risk. Some stronger storms may be capable of producing hail and damaging winds.

Atchison County will conduct its monthly Outdoor Warning Siren Test today at 10:00 AM.

Remember, outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors. They should never be relied upon as your only method of receiving emergency warnings.
Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive alerts, including:

• NOAA Weather Radio
• Local television and radio stations
• Trusted weather apps and media sources

**UPDATE**:

The outdoor warning sirens are back online and fully functional.

The primary issue was determined to be a failed radio component, which has now been corrected.

At this time, the outdoor warning sirens are experiencing storm-related technical difficulties and are currently not functional.

Residents are urged to rely on alternate methods for receiving tornado warnings, including:
• Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your mobile device
• NOAA Weather Radios
• Local television and radio stations
• Trusted weather apps and media sources

Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert individuals who are outdoors and should never be relied upon as the sole method of receiving warnings.

We are actively working to restore functionality as quickly as possible.

A moderate (Level 4 out of 5) risk exists for parts of the forecast area, with an enhanced (Level 3) and slight (Level 2) risk extending southeastward. Greater confidence exists with storms developing into a line of storms later this evening/overnight. However, a conditional threat exists for the development of discrete storms this afternoon, dependent on how the atmosphere recovers from morning storms. Stay up to date with the forecast, and have multiple ways to receive warnings!

Today’s scheduled outdoor warning siren test will take place at 11:00 AM.

Outdoor warning sirens in Atchison County are normally tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00 AM from March through November, weather permitting. Last weeks outdoor warning siren test was postponed due to cloudy conditions.

Today’s scheduled outdoor warning siren test has been postponed due to forecasted cloudy weather conditions.

The next siren test will take place on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

Outdoor warning sirens in Atchison County are normally tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00 AM from March through November, weather permitting.

Severe weather continues to be expected this afternoon and evening. All severe hazards (large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes) will be possible. However, large hail will be the primary threat during initial stages of storm development, with damaging winds becoming more likely as storms congeal into lines or clusters. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially if storms remain discrete. Stay weather aware today!

Storms are expected to develop between 1-3 PM across the area and grow into a line as they move east-southeast this afternoon. At least a few storms are likely to be severe and produce large hail, damaging winds, and potentially a tornado or two. Stay weather aware today and have multiple ways to receive warnings!
