Congratulations to our June Ace of the Month, Corporal Garrett Loroff! Garrett has been with the Atchison Police Department for 18 years and currently serves as the School Resource Officer for USD 409. Garrett not only helps keep our schools safe, but he also builds trust, respect, and positive relationships with students and staff alike. Garrett also goes beyond his duties by always offering a listening ear and greeting everyone with a smile. He is known for keeping our schools safe and for always being approachable, kind, and supportive.
Garrett received the following nomination:
"I am nominating Officer Garrett Loroff for Ace of the Month for his commendable service as the School Resource Officer during a recent storm as school buses were called back so student riders would have shelter. My son, who is non-verbal and has autism, was on one of those buses. He doesn't always do so well with breaks in routine, so he didn't want to get off the bus at a different location than normal.
With tornado sirens wailing, rain pouring, lightning flashing and hail falling all around, Garrett stayed with my son until I could get there to assist. Fortunately, the storm subsided just as I arrived, and my son, safe and sound, exited the bus and went home with me no problems. Garrett was calm and patient with him even under those circumstances and said that no matter what, he was going to ride out the storm with my son on that bus.
The men and women of the Atchison Police Department perform services like these every day and night, and I'm sure it's easy for people to take that for granted; however, it certainly hits differently when it's your child's safety and well-being benefitting from the bravery, compassion and commitment of police officers like Garrett Loroff. Thank you, Garrett...so very much.
Great job, Officer Loroff!
Garrett will receive the Ace trophy for the month of June, a $50 gift card to any local business of his choice and be in the running for Ace of the Year for 2026.
