We know it is late, but we were a little busy yesterday. We would like to still say Happy Mother’s Day to Diane, Julie, and Jennifer who are all moms and volunteer with our department. We would also like to say Happy Mother’s Day to the wives who take care of the kids and other responsibilities while their spouses are making calls. We appreciate you all and all the other mothers, including those who spent the day serving the community yesterday afternoon.

May 4th is recognized as International Firefighters’ Day and acts as a time when the world can recognize and honor the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure their communities are as safe as possible. It is also a day when current and past firefighters are thanked for their contributions.

Today we proudly recognize the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters across the world including those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and thank the men and women who continue to serve with courage, commitment, and pride.

Since 1954, our department has been protecting lives and property in our community, answering the call whenever needed. To the members of Richland Area Fire Department—past and present—thank you for your selfless service, your long hours, and your unwavering dedication to the people you protect.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fire service. In recognition of Firefighter Memorial Day, our flags are lowered to half-staff as a symbol of respect, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten, and their legacy continues to inspire each of us who serve.

Last year, our department began a tradition of honoring our Life Members by placing fire department markers and flags at their gravesites. Yesterday, members took the time to replace those flags, ensuring that their service and commitment are remembered. This is a tradition we are proud to continue each year.

Today, we pause to reflect, remember, and honor—both those who gave everything and those who dedicated a lifetime to serving others.
